99 Nights Halloween Event: How to get candles and candy
As if a deep, dark forest filled to the brim with giant monsters, nefarious cultists and dangerous creatures wasn’t scary enough, a new Halloween event has come to 99 Nights in the Forest.
99 Nights’ Halloween event tasks players with wandering door-to-door and playing Trick or Treat. The friendly vendors and other residents of the forest will have a helpful treat in store for players, as well as the tasty event currency everyone’s trying to get their hands on: Candy.
However, you will have to track down a new resource to be able to knock on anyone’s door. These are called Halloween Candles, and you’ll likely need to engage in combat to get them.
But even after you’ve gone to all that effort. A knock at the wrong door will lead to a nasty trick that can put you on the back foot against some of the forest’s most dangerous enemies.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Halloween event in 99 Nights in the Forest, including where to find candles to light up houses, where to get candy, and what to do with that candy once you’ve got it!
Where to find Candles in 99 Nights in the Forest
There are two main ways to get Candles in 99 Nights in the Forest:
- Defeat Cultists in the Cultist Stronghold, at random points of interest in the forest, or as they’re attacking your campfire
- Find Candles randomly inside chests which are themselves randomly scattered throughout the forest
The most surefire ways to find Candles in 99 Nights is either by waiting for Cultists to attack your campfire and defeating them, or to go out looking for the Cultist Stronghold building.
Roughly about 1-in-3 Cultists will drop a Halloween Candle, meaning you’re very likely to get one every time your fire is attacked, but also that you can get a lot of them quite quickly from taking out waves of Cultists in the Stronghold.
Where to get Candy in 99 Nights in the Forest
There are also two main ways to get Candy in 99 Nights in the Forest:
- Enter the latest 99 Nights in the Forest code, “happyhalloween” into the text box inside the Diamond Shop menu for 10 free Candy
- Use Candles to light up decorated houses in-game, then knock on the door at night
You can also get one free Candy from behind Pumpkin Jack, inside the pumpkin deer head, in the game lobby.
With the Halloween Candles you gathered earlier, you then need to search the map for decorated houses to go Trick or Treating at.
Houses are not difficult to spot, but tend to spawn a good distance from your campfire once it’s reached level 3 and above.
Build a map at your campfire, and you can see the locations where you can Trick or Treat marked with a spooky house icon.
To get Candy, follow these steps:
- Approach a house while dragging a Candle or with one in your sack
- Drop the Candle on the house to light it up
- Next, interact with the door to knock on it at night time
- An NPC will open the door and either give you a trick or a treat
- Treating NPCs will give you 3 Candy and a random item, which can be things like coins, pumpkins and even equipment like the Frog Boots
- Tricking NPCs will just give you 3 Candy and a nasty fright
To increase the amount of Candy you get, you can also purchase the Trick or Treater class from the event shop in the 99 Nights game lobby. But whether that investment is worth the Candy depends on much you think you’ll play over the next three weeks of Halloween!
What to do with Candy in 99 Nights in the Forest
Now that you’ve collected some Candy, you need to spend it!
Leave the game and go back to the 99 Nights in the Forest lobby where you can see the Badge board, class shop and other players before joining a game.
There, at the back of the lobby, you find the event NPC, Pumpkin Jack.
Speak to him and he’ll provide you access to a special shop where you can buy limited-time and Halloween themed items.
Items with a clock icon next to them will only last for the next few weeks while the Halloween event is on (this includes things like the new Trick or Treater class). Other items like the tame animal skins, or the furniture will still be available to play with past the event window.
His shop inventory is currently as follows:
- Trick or Treater Class – 30 Candy
- Jack o’ Lantern Furniture – 20 Candy
- Spooky Table Furniture – 20 Candy
- Spooky Chairs Furniture – 20 Candy
- Pumpkin Bunny Pet Skin – 150 Candy
- Skeleton Wolf Pet Skin – 500 Candy
