Monster Hunter Wilds Hirabami guide: weaknesses, strategy, rewards
The Hirabami is one of Monster Hunter Wilds’ most impressive Large Monsters, with fast, fluid movement and a range of elegantly-executed attacks that Hunters will be both enamored and frustrated by. If the Hirabami and feelings of frustration go hand-in-hand for you, that’s fortunately where this Monster Hunter Wilds Hirabami guide comes in.
Below, we’ve detailed all of the Hirabami’s weaknesses, explained what you should bring along with you before hunting the creature, and given some tips as to what attacks to look out for – and hopefully, dodge.
Monster Hunter Wilds Hirabami guide: weaknesses, strategy, rewards
First things first, the Hirabami is a huge leviathan creature that resides in Iceshard Cliffs, and the creature is often found in groups. Before hunting one down, prepare accordingly by packing some Hot Drinks in your pouch, and bring along a Fire or Thunder weapon (or ammo).
Hirabami Weaknesses
Hirabami is weak to the Fire and Thunder element in Monster Hunter Wilds, hence the suggestion that you bring a weapon of either element along with you to hunt them! It’s also worth noting that the Hirabami is resistant to the Ice element, so it isn’t worth using weapons of the Ice element against them.
As for the Hirabami’s weak point, you want to target its mouth whenever possible. Though, given that this leviathan creature is airborne much of the time, this can be quite difficult.
Hirabami Strategy
If you’re approaching a group of Hirabami, you will want to use Dung Pods to disperse the pack until only one of them remains. You can then attack the solo Hirabami and begin your hunt!
The Hirabami is an aerial enemy, so those using short-range melee weapons will have a tougher time with this fight than those using weapons such as the Bow, Bowgun, Lance, or Insect Glaive. It’s still doable, though, provided you take advantage of any openings in which the monster is close to the ground.
The main things to watch out for during this fight are the Hirabami’s tail (which they’ll regularly attack with), the snowballs it fires at Hunters (which can temporarily stun you), and its multitude of slam attacks.
For example, the Hirabami – while both airborne and grounded – will writhe around to try and slam you with either side of its body. It will also, of course, use its tail to try and slam you, or in some instances, go airborne before plunging into the ground towards you and your fellow Hunters. These can be dodged if you’re aware of them, though you can also use Flash Pods to stun the Hirabami temporarily and halt its more brutal combos.
If you’re using a long-range weapon, you can safely keep a distance from the monster for the most part – especially if you’ve other Hunters helping out – but will still need to be cautious of the snowballs that the Hirabami fires, as well as it quickly closing in on you. They’re fast! Those using short-range weapons will need to focus on the Hirabami’s tail for the most part, though whenever it gets closer to the ground, you ideally want to target its weak point: the mouth. Weapons that deal bludgeoning damage, such as the Hammer, will do exceptionally well here.
As a short-range user, it’s also important to look out for the Hirabami’s Roar – or at least, equipping some gear to help combat it – as this can temporarily immobilise you, which sucks when you’re hoping to go all in and bludgeon the Hirabami’s face to smithereens.
All in all, expect to do a lot of dodging during this fight, given just how swift the Hirabami is. Though, if you bring along a Fire or Thunder weapon, some relevant items (Dung Pods, Thunder Pods, and Flash Pods), and are prepared to run around a lot, you’ll have no trouble with this fight. Just don’t try fighting multiple Hirabami at once… they will very quickly overwhelm you.
If you’re looking to capture the Hirabami, it’s worth noting that Shock Traps won’t work on this fella. Instead, you’ll need to use Pitfall Traps.
