Guide to Restoring Your Saves

The game leaves old world backups in your save folder when you delete the save, so you should be able to restore it.
- The saves are stored at %localappdata%\Moria\Saved\SaveGames
Note: Always backup your SaveGames or Moria folder before making any modifications. If you delete or rename the wrong file, you may lose data.
- The world saves begin with ‘MW_’ followed by a random string and end in .sav.
- The character saves begin with ‘MC_’ followed by a random string and end in .sav.
Likewise, the world backups begin with ‘MW_’ followed by a random string, and end in .bak.
The most recent backup will end with .00.bak, the next most recent will be .01.bak, etc.
If your save file exists, but is corrupt, you will need to remove or change the .sav to something else, (for example, .000 or .BROKEN). If your save file is missing/deleted, then there will be several .bak files without a matching .sav.
(Assuming, it’s missing) You want to find the one that has .bak files, but no corresponding .sav file.
Otherwise, use the timestamps to identify the correct world save and rename or delete it.
Then, copy the file that ends in .00.bak and then rename it so that it ends in .sav.
If there’s already a file with that name, then you are not restoring the world you deleted. You are trying to restore a world that still exists.
There is a similar rollback method for characters using filenames beginning with ‘MC_’, however, these rollback files are not created as often, and you may be unable to recover a recent copy of the character (or any at all.)
Despite this rollback system, I recommend keeping regular backups of this entire folder as it is not saved to cloud (nor anywhere else.)
