There’s now a Monster Hunter Wilds mod that swaps your hunting horn for a working toy saxophone Jack Black once played after someone shouted “give it to me daddy”
If you think Monster Hunter Wilds’ normal hunting horns are starting to get a bit boring, good news. One of Monster Hunter World’s more interesting mods has now made its way across to the series’ latest entry, and it gives you a funky saxophone that makes actual saxophone noises.
Here’s the thing, though. Not to sound like a used car salesman, but this isn’t just any saxophone. It’s a toy one that’s been made famous by Jack Black. Aye, that bloke from the Minecraft Movie and a bunch of other stuff incuding what I’d still rate as one of the best music videos of all time.
It’s in that capacity, as a key cog in the band Tenacious D – which is now seemingly getting back on track after an, er, interesting 2024 – alongside Kyle Gass, that Black made a thing of the Sax-a-Boom. Basically, it’s a toy saxophone that you press a buttons on and it plays tunes. He’s played it on stage and at least once in front of an alien wearing human skin that was hosting an American late night talk show.
Enter modder TalonGrayson, who’s now followed up their 2024 MH: World mod that swapped out the Awakened Safi’jiiva Hunting Horn for a working Sax-a-Boom, with a freshly-released one that brings the instrument to Wilds. It replaces the Artian hunting horn, and as you can see in the showcase video below which shows of the World version, will let you play the same sounds the real Sax-A-Boom does.
“There are some difference between World and Wilds in how the audio is triggered,” TalonGrayson writes, “In principle I prefer the Wilds way, as it means less repetition, but it does mean less consistent Sax-a-Boom noises in-game.”
So, you’ll have to work a bit harder if you’re going to be cranking out sweet melodies all the time while you’re killing a potentially bald Arkveld, but hey, life is nothing if not difficult, especially when you’re pusuing something worthwhile. Apologies, it appears I’ve been momentarily replaced by one of your mum’s motivational slogan cushions.
