How to beat Equilibrious Beast in Elden Ring Nightreign
Elden Ring Nightreign currently has eight different Nightlords for you to throw yourself against, some of them being much more troubling opponents than others. One of the harder Nightlords to face in Nightreign is the Equilibrious Beast – also known as Libra, Creature of Night – who is a Madness-inducing (both literally and metaphorically) boss that uses brutal Physical attacks and Incantations to prevent you from attacking.
All in all, Libra is a particularly cool boss, but happens to also be one of the more frustrating Nightlords to try to deal with. He’s fast and ruthless, and in this guide, we’re helping you deal with him. Here’s how to beat the Equilibrious Beast in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How to beat Equilibrious Beast in Elden Ring Nightreign
First things first, if you’re planning on fighting the Equilibrious Beast (who I’ll mainly refer to as Libra from here on out) in your next Nightreign Expedition, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Having this knowledge before commencing an Expedition will give you a better idea of what Nightfarers to use and what equipment or passive effects to look out for.
- Libra is weak to Madness, Holy, Fire, and Slash Damage. Madness/Holy Incantations and weapons that deal Holy damage will excel here.
- Libra is best tackled up close with melee characters, forcing the boss to use his Quarterstaff rather than his Spells/Incantations, which are very difficult to avoid. Two melee characters and one ranged one – such as Ironeye – is a good trio composition for this boss.
- Libra will scatter crystals around the arena during his Madness attacks; run over these to retrieve them and alleviate yourself of Madness build-up.
- Libra deals Madness and Physical Damage primarily. If you can find and eat Clarifying Boluses during an Expedition, these will raise your overall Madness Resistance.
- If you can inflict Libra with Madness, it’ll forget its spells, go into a frenzy, and begin blindly swinging its weapon. This is a great opportunity to attack the boss.
- Raider’s Ultimate Art can be used to block a lot of Libra’s projectiles in a pinch.
Should you make a deal with Nightreign’s Scale-Bearing Merchant?
The battle against Libra begins differently to that of other Nightlords. Upon entering, you’ll be able to speak to the Scale-Bearing Merchant (which is Libra but cloaked) and make a deal with them. These deals vary wildly, but all offer some sort of pro or con. You can also select a deal to read about what it does before confirming.
For example, asking for more levels will give you more levels, but also means you lose one each time you consume a Flask. Similarly, wishing for eventual greatness – which is one of the better deals in my opinion – will reduce your HP, FP, and Stamina by a third for a period of time before an even greater amount of HP, FP, Stamina is eventually returned to you.
You can also refuse to make a deal or attack the Merchant right away, it’s up to you. Just be careful to not choose a deal that throws your Expedition entirely, especially if your team is entering the fight in a promising position with strong builds.
Equilibrious Beast attacks and counters in Nightreign
The Equilibrious Beast only has one phase during their fight in Nightreign, and utilises the same attacks throughout, although they do get more complicated as the fight progresses.
One of the most important things to be aware of is that if you do not break Libra out of its Meditation attack (which we’ll explain below), it will gain a defensive buff that makes the fight significantly more difficult. You ideally do not want to let this happen!
- Meditation: Libra may sit cross-legged with a spectral shield surrounding them. Multiple sigils that need to be destroyed – ideally with a bow or ranged attack – will appear around the boss, and hitting them all quickly will break Libra out of this attack. Alternatively, Libra’s shield can be broken using Ironeye or Wylder’s charged Ultimates, or by using Raider’s Skill (Raider’s Skill only works sometimes, it seems). Failing to break the shield provides Libra with a defensive buff that you do not want them to have.
- Splitting Golden Rain: Libra will create a golden light in their hands, casting upwards, causing golden crystals to be fired at the ground in a rain-like manner. You want to sprint away from this attack until it’s over so as to not get clipped by the rain.
- Rotating Golden Glyph: Libra creates a golden, rotating glyph that fires out golden crystals at a ridiculous rate. Getting caught by this without much poise can stagger you, trapping you in it, and quickly depleting your HP. Manouvre around Libra as to not be in front of him when he activates this glyph, and keep moving so it does not catch up with you.
- Frenzied Geyser: Libra crushes a golden light in its hand, spawning golden glyphs beneath players. You want to run or dodge out of the glyphs, or else they will explode and inflict Madness.
- Frenzy: Libra will drop to its knees and begin mindlessly slamming its Quarterstaff on the floor as Madness begins to fill the arena, turning the arena yellow. Use the golden crystals on the floor to alleviate Madness build-up until the arena returns to normal again, or alternatively hit Libra with your strongest attacks in an attempt to break it out of this attack before it ends.
- Frenzied Sky: This particular attack often coincides with the last attack, but so you’re prepared: Libra will sometimes summon a sky of Madness above him which then collapses on the players, instantly inflicting Madness (and capable of very quickly ending a run). You have a small window of time to make sure you’re not underneath this sky of Madness when it drops.
- Ram: Occasionally, Libra will charge at players, attempting to ram them with his head. Be prepared to dodge to either side if you see him running for you. Though, more often than not, it’s not this you need to worry about, but the fact he can teleport directly on top of players.
- Ground Slams: Libra is also capable of slamming the ground, conjuring explosive pools of Madness around him that you will want to avoid by making sure you are not standing on the pools or near Libra himself.
All in all, the Equilibrious Beast is one of Nightreign’s toughest Nightlords to try and take down, but those who are able to successfully interrupt his attacks and keep overwhelming the boss will soon be able to beat him.
Don’t forget about inflicting Madness and Holy damage if you find a strong weapon that can do so, and where possible, make sure to have a Wylder or Ironeye on your team who can break him out of his meditative attack.
