Surviving all 99 Nights in the Forest might seem impossible at first, but there are some repeatable patterns, tips and tricks which can set you up with the right foundations for success every time.

As you attempt to solve the mystery of the terrifying Deer, the cult that worships it and rescue all 4 of the missing children, you will have to deal with hunger, the harsh elements and aggressive wild animals, but it’s nothing you can’t overcome with the right preparation.

To make matters even more interesting, each week more and more content is added to 99 Nights, expanding its already intriguing lore as its underlying story builds up to a proper ending. But these events also give you new strategies for making it to the end of your ordeal.

So, to help you walk out of the woods in one piece, here’s everything you need to do to survive in 99 Nights in the Forest!

How to survive 99 Nights in the Forest

To make it out of the forest alive, here are a few things you need to focus on:

1. Hunt rabbits to get a rabbit foot to trade with the Pelt Trader on Day 2
2. Cut down trees, then plant saplings close to your camp circle so you have a healthy supply of wood
3. Build two Farming Plots in a convenient place as a source of food
4. Build Bear Traps to help ward off attackers
5. Scavenge for scrap away from your camp to upgrade your workbench until you can build a Crock Pot
6. Place the Crock Pot next to your Farming Plots so you can make an endless supply of Stew and never go hungry
7. Aliens give you an easy way to get OP weapons if you’ve not got any already
8. Build a Biofuel Processor to dump your logs into to get your fire to maximum level
9. Stockpile logs and scrap to make all of the available beds
10. Rescue all of the missing children to make as many days pass at once
11. Repeat this until you reach 99 Nights!

Trade with the Pelt Trader

The first thing you do when you spawn into 99 Nights in the Forest shouldn’t be to chop down some logs as the game suggests, but to farm the rabbits that inhabit the starting area until you get a bunny foot.

That way, when the guaranteed Pelt Trader arrives on day 2, you can immediately get yourself either a Good Axe or a Good Sack. Both of these vital items make scavenging, and therefore survival, much easier.

Personally, if you’ve not already found one in a chest on your first day, I think you should get a Good Axe rather than the sack because it makes gathering logs in the early game just that much faster.

Plant saplings close to your camp to build a mini-forest

You’ll need that Good Axe soon too, because right from the start of your save you can start to build your own mini-forest on the edge of your camp fire circle.

Rather than just planting Saplings where they land, make the effort to carry them back to your camp and plant them close together just outside your circle.

As the saplings grow, you’ll soon get a tight clump of trees which can net you dozens of logs every couple of days – more than enough to fuel both your fire and crafting needs in the early game.

Never go hungry with a Crock Pot and Farming Plots

One of the first things you make with your logs should be a farming plot or 2. This gives you as many as 16 carrots to munch on every couple of days, which should be enough to tide you over on its own.

However, keep stockpiling your scrap, logs and cultist gems until you can upgrade your crafting bench and build a Crock Pot. Then build the Crock Pot between your Farming Plots.

Using the carrots that grow, you can constantly refill your Crock Pot and cook filling Stew with such efficiency that you will never go hungry again throughout your whole 99 Nights adventure.

Make use of Alien Tech

The introduction of the Alien Mothership is not just an intriguing piece of lore and fun combat challenge, but a massive development when it comes to surviving the duration of the game.

When flying saucers crash on your map, they have a chance to drop alien loot inside. This includes weapons like the Laser Sword and Raygun. If you haven’t managed to find a different weapon to defend yourself from the cultists so far, then scavenging the alien ships are a sure-fire way to get something pointy or zappy in your arsenal.

Complete your fire and you don’t need to look after it anymore

Once you’ve got your food engine going with the Crock Pot and built up a dense clump of trees to farm logs from, then you can move onto completing your camp fire.

An easy way to do this is to build a Biofuel Converter which feeds directly into your fire and throw all of your excess logs and any meat you collect into it. You could also use the Oil Drill, but it’s very slow to produce Oil Drums.

Once you raise your camp fire to max level you don’t have to look after it so much and can go about your business exploring the farthest reaches of the forest without worrying about it going out.

Survive until the end!

Now that your fire is complete and you have a steady supply of food, you’re ready to make a run to the end of the game.

This is the time to craft every available bed and rescue the missing children to increase your days passed multiplier to the maximum.

Unless you want to take on the Cultist Stronghold to farm free Diamonds, your only challenge now is to defeat the waves of cultists who attack your camp. To do this, make sure you have plenty of Bear Traps to supplement your damage output and take special care to target the crossbow cultists. Crossbow cultists are the most dangerous enemies because they can kill you seemingly from nowhere.

If you take out the crossbow cultists in every wave that attacks, you’re free to take out the rest from a safe distance. Play smart, play safe and you should be able to survive until 99 nights! Good luck!
