WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers boasts an abundance of grotesque bosses for you to come up against, and one of the first ‘gimmick’ bosses, so to speak, is Reborn Treant, Soulwood. This boss is not the most difficult to counter, but if you’ve been swinging your axe around or slicing mobs up with your sword so far, you might find yourself a bit lost as to what to do during this fight.
This boss forces you to take advantage of Spells and enemy weaknesses to make light work of it, and to help you out with that, here’s our WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Reborn Treant, Soulwood boss guide.
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Reborn Treant, Soulwood boss guide
The Reborn Treant, Soulwood is a huge tree boss found at the end of Doomwillow Beach. He’s a lot like Dark Souls 3’s Curse-Rotted Greatwood, given that he’s a tree who barely moves out of the spot he is standing in, and spawns smaller enemies around the arena. That said, he’s arguably a little bit easier to take down than the Dark Souls 3 boss is.

When you first enter Soulwood’s arena, you’ll find that he is on the other end of the room in a red pool, and he doesn’t move from this spot throughout the fight. He will, however, spawn skeletal enemies and tree branches to attack you, hurl chunks of gore at you from afar, and sweep at you with his arms if you get close.
On top of that, he can dish out huge AoE fire attacks across the arena that you’ll want to be mindful of, and if his arms are in the ground at any point – where they often get stuck – it’s best steering clear of them. Once he finally does manage to get his arms unstuck, there’ll be an AoE blast around his arm.
It might be tempting to run up to Soulwood and relentlessly attack them, but you’ll soon find that the red pool he is in will build up the Despair ailment on you. If this fully builds up, it’ll kill you, much like Deathblight in Elden Ring.
WUCHANG Reborn Treant strategy
There are ultimately two ways of approaching the Reborn Treant, Soulwood in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers. Melee-only builds will want to do one of two things: attack Soulwood’s arms, taking care to dodge when he pulls them from the ground, and attack his body whenever the pool around him drains. This can lead to quite a lengthy fight with a lot of dodging and waiting, so I recommend utilising a mixture of Magic Spells and Fire Pots for this fight.
As a tree, Soulwood is weak to Fire, and you’ll find that both Fire Pots and Niter Fire Pots do a whole chunk of damage to him. On top of that, the chunks of gore he hurls at you throughout the fight will leave behind a single stack of Skyborn Might each; spellcasters can quickly collect these, charge their Skyborn Might, and unleash Fire-type Spells to quickly make light work of the foe.
The best Fire-type Spell to use at this point in the game is Burning Flames, which is a ranged Spell that sees you dodge before casting. You can also try the Echo of Dhutanga if you don’t mind getting up close and personal with Soulwood, though.
There are some other items to consider using during this fight if you’re struggling: Flameward Pills boost your Fire damage mitigation, Mind Lotus Seeds can alleviate your Despair build-up if need be, and the Fixed Origin Pill boosts your resistances to all ailments temporarily.
WUCHANG Reborn Treant rewards
Once Soulwood has been defeated, he’ll drop the Alltree Jade Cylinder, which you can give to Merchant Tao Qing to unlock new items. He will also drop the Echo of Soulwood Spell, allowing you to hurl chunks of gore – which deals Feathering damage – at future foes.
