99 Nights in the Forest Potion Ingredients locations guide
Bubble bubble, toil and trouble has come to the deep dark woods of 99 Nights in the Forest as potion mixing arrives for the second week of its sprawling, spooky Halloween season.
Next to your crafting table, survivors can now throw ingredients foraged from across the forest into a boiling cauldron. Mix up the right ingredients and you can craft potions which give nasty Trick effects and helpful Treat buffs to either yourself or other players.
How to mix potions in 99 Nights in the Forest
To craft a potion in 99 Nights in the Forest, you need to throw the correct ingredients, which are shown above the boiling pot, into the cauldron next to your crafting table.
You add ingredients to the mixture in the same way that you’d drop materials into your crafting table. Once the brew is complete, you can then grab the potion in the same way you’d take a stew from the Crock Pot.
However, while many of these potion ingredients are regular resources that you will be used to finding as you evade the vicious cultists and giant monsters who stalk through the trees at night, there are lots of new, unique flowers which are not just difficult to track down, but require hidden steps to be completed before they even appear in the first place!
These include:
- Dripleaf
- Moonflower
- Stareweed
- Cave Vine
- Mandrake Plants
Here’s where to find and how to harvest all of the above potion ingredients, as well as what to do with your potions once you’ve mixed them in 99 Nights in the Forest!
99 Nights in the Forest Potion Ingredient locations
To get all of the new flower and plant ingredients to make potions, you need to visit the Fairy who usually sells Berry and Chili Seeds and give her more Flowers. For 10 Flowers each time, she will plant Seeds containing the Halloween flowers somewhere on the map.
When the Fairy plants the seeds, you will be shown a cutscene of where the plants will grow.
Remember, the Fairy’s shop is only open during the daytime.

How to harvest Dripleaf
To get Dripleaf for your potions, you first need to visit the Fairy somewhere near your campfire and pay her 10 Flowers to plant Dripleaf seeds around the map.
Next, once the seeds have grown the next day, you will be able to find some Dripweed Plants near the edge of ponds and close to water.
Click on the Dripleaf to tear the flower from the stalk and you will be able to store it in your sack for the potion.
How to harvest Moonflower
To add some Moonflower to your potions, you again need to visit the Fairy and pay her 10 Flowers to plant some Moonflower Seeds.
Once the seeds have grown, which tend to be placed near your campfire, you need to return to the plants at night time. Then, while the plants have bloomed at night, hit them with your axe to loosen the bulb from the rest of the plant, which can then be used in your potions.
How to harvest Stareweed
After you have paid 10 Flowers to the Fairy for her to plant Stareweed Seeds, look for Stareweed plants around the forest. They are usually found near the bottom of the watch towers which often hide Flashlights in the early game.
With a Flashlight in your hand, point the beam towards the Stareweed to get the eye to open, then click to grab the Stareweed Petal.
Stuff them into your Sack, then you can use them in your potions.
How to harvest Cave Vine
Cave Vine can be tricky to harvest, because there’s mandatory combat involved in accessing its location.
First, like the other plant ingredients, visit the Fairy and pay her 10 Flowers to plant the Cave Vine Seeds.
Next, travel to the first dungeon where you find the first Missing Kid. You can track it down easily by interacting with the Missing posters next to your campfire and you’ll be given an arrow that points in its general direction.
Defeat the Wolves guarding the dungeon entrance, which could be useful for gathering Steak and Morsels for your potions too, then grab the Red Key the last Wolf drops.
Open the gate and inside the cellar prison you should find Cave Vine growing on the sides of the walls. Click it or hit it with your axe to loosen the flower, which you can store and use in your own potions.
How to harvest Mandrake Plants
Finally, to get Mandrake Plants you also need to get the Fairy to plant Mandrake Seeds by paying her 10 Flowers.
Once they’re scattered and have grown the next day, you can then find Mandrake Plants around all of the Trick or Treat Houses in your Forest.
To get the Mandrake, you need to click it to yank the root from the soil, then store it in your pouch and bring it back to the cauldron.
What to do with Potions in 99 Nights in the Forest
Once you’ve completed the potion recipe displayed above the cauldron next to your campfire you’ll be rewarded with both some Halloween Candy and a Potion.
There are two kinds of potions you can make: Trick Potions and Treat Potions.
Trick potions are purple and give negative effects like:
- Speed reduction
- Transform into a frog (can’t use items)
- Transform into a pumpkin head
Treat potions on the other hand are green give more positive effects, such as:
- Walk speed boost
- No hunger loss
To use a potion, you need to equip it from your item bar, then throw it either at another player, or at your own feet. The player splashed with the potion will then suffer or benefit from the temporary effect of the potion.
While it’s definitely a fun diversion, the main benefit of making potions is to get more candy to buy the fun prizes available for playing 99 Nights during the Halloween season. This includes not just cosmetics, but the Witch and Trick or Treater class too.
