In Where Winds Meet, the mysterious Sect known as the Nine Mortal Ways are a devious band of tricksters who use deception and deceit to their advantage, either to enrich themselves or make fun of the misery of others.
Joining the Nine Mortal Ways allows you to use their signature Mortal Rope Dart weapon and Ultimate, as well as play tricks on other players to advance through the ranks of the Sect.
However, the game is relatively cryptic about how to actually go about entering the Nine Mortal Ways Sect, saying only that fate will guide you to them. Here’s how to do just that and become a legendary trickster yourself!
How to join the Nine Mortal Ways in Where Winds Meet
To join the Nine Mortal Ways, you need to first follow the same path as if you were trying to join the Well of Heaven Sect.
To do this, make your way to Harvestfall Village in the west of Qinghe and speak to the waiter, San Qian, who’s in-the-know with all of the goings on in town.
After handing over a cheap bribe, he’ll tell you that an elder of the Well of Heaven passed through and has set up camp near an elm tree at the top of the village.
Head over there and the elder will happily accept your request to join, but not before you complete a task for him: stealing a pile of jewelry from his old friend.
This should instantly start alarm bells ringing, since the core tenet of the Well of Heaven is “Heroic Righteousness”. Stealing a pile of jewelry doesn’t really sound like that, but play along for now.
As you may not expect, this supposed Well of Heaven master is in fact a member of the Nine Mortal Ways in disguise and is playing a trick on you. However, if you can complete his request, you can join the ranks of the tricksters yourself.
To join Nine Mortal Ways, make your way to the fake elder’s “old friend” and hold the right-stick to activate Wind Sense, then select “Large Pile of Jewelry” in his inventory and “request” it.
It becomes clear that this man is the true Well of Heaven elder, but either way, you will be successful in seizing the jewels, so return to the first Elder and hand them over.
At this point, he reveals that you have been tricked into working for and joining the Nine Mortal Ways, a Sect that specializes in deception and malicious tomfoolery.
While you can refuse and return to the real elder to try and join the Well of Heaven, if you agree to join the Nine Mortal Ways, you receive the Mortal Rope Dart Melee DPS Martial Art as well as access to some unique activities.
As a member of the Nine Mortal Ways, you need to collect “Fun Points” by posting fake messages, send fake money packets, cheat and bluff in Madiao Cards, and participate in playing disguise.
To purchase disguises, go to Yu Xiaoyao’s Half-Face Makeup Shop as marked on your map.
Failing in your tricks or doing jail time for crimes will lower you in the estimations of the Nine Mortal Ways Sect, whereas successfully annoying everyone around you will shoot you up through the ranks in no time!
