Cooking is one of seven hobbies available to players in Heartopia, a slow life sim that’s all about reconnecting with nature in a chill and laid-back fashion. Cooked dishes are useful in a number of ways: they can be eaten to replenish energy, gifted to friends, or simply collected to fill out your gourmet catalogue in exchange for rewards.
Most cooking recipes in Heartopia unlock after a skill increase and/or by purchasing them from town chef Massimo. However, Mushroom Pie is a bit of an outlier, requiring a few specific actions before you can learn it. Here’s how to get the Mushroom Pie recipe in Heartopia.
How to get the Mushroom Pie recipe in Heartopia
Heartopia’s Mushroom Pie recipe is unlocked by completing a Gossip quest with Massimo, the chef who runs the bistro in the centre of town. However, there are several prerequisites in place to unlock this quest, meaning that it isn’t immediately obvious how to get the recipe.
Massimo’s Gossip quest “The Mushroom Picking” is initially a hidden quest, which you need to uncover by taking the following steps:
- Deliver five common mushrooms as part of a daily resident request for Massimo.
- Accept the Town Story tutorial quest from the Daily Life Guide section of the Town Guide when it becomes available.
- Complete any regular Gossip quest around Town Square and report back to Annie.
Annie will explain that resident requests can sometimes give clues as to hidden Gossips. As an example, and to reward you for completing the Town Story tutorial quest, she’ll uncover Massimo’s “The Mushroom Picking” hidden Gossip for you – the clue, of course, being Massimo’s earlier request for mushrooms.
After uncovering the quest, interact with Massimo and select “The Mushroom Picking” to begin the Gossip quest. A little unusually for Heartopia, the quest is divided into multiple stages. To begin with you need to:
- Collect 10 common mushrooms of any type.
- Deliver three common mushrooms to Massimo.
Once these steps are completed, Massimo will reward you with his Mushroom Pie recipe, which can then be cooked on any stove with the correct ingredients, which include wheat and an egg alongside any two common mushrooms.
You then have two more quest objectives: to cook Mushroom Pie, and then give Massimo your honest feedback on the recipe. In addition to the recipe unlock, you’ll receive five Wishing Stars for completing the quest in full.
The first time you make Mushroom Pie, no matter what combination of mushrooms you use, you’ll add the Mushroom Pie recipe to your gourmet collection. Subsequently, remaking the recipe using mushrooms of all one type will unlock several specific variant recipes based on the kind of mushroom you use.
