007 First Light has been out for just over a week and already it may have surpassed two million copies sold.

This figure comes from video game industry analyst Rhyss Elliot, atAlinea Analytics. In their post breaking down May’s top PlayStation games by copies sold, released following the Sony State of Play livestream on Tuesday, Elliot provided some data based on their findings.

“007 First Light sold 1 million copies on PS5 in May, easily making it the month’s top PS5 game by copies sold,” wrote Elliot. “Over 80 percent of those May copies were digital, which is broadly in line with where PlayStation’s digital share has settled for new releases this year.

“To date, 007 First Light has sold through 2.2 million copies across platforms (so no unsold retail copies in that figure). The platform split is 55.1 percent PS5, 33.1 percent Steam, and 11.8 percent Xbox (console, Windows, and cloud combined).”

Elliot estimated that so far, 007 First Light has brought in roughly $150m. Of that income, he claims 60.5 percent came via PlayStation, 27.6 percent via Steam, and 12.9 percent via Xbox. He added: “Owing to regional pricing and audience composition differences, the consoles make up a higher share of revenue than they do copies.”

He also stated that over two thirds of 007 First Light players were based in either North America or Western Europe, Interestingly, on Steam, fewer than half of 007 First Light’s players are from those regions. China, it turns out, is taking a substantial chunk of the PC player base, at roughly 17.3 percent according to Elliot.

These estimates match what we know officially, that 007 First Light passed an impressive 1.5m sales milestone within 24 hours of release. We also know that IO Interactive has plans to keep updating 007 First Light post-launch, which may keep folks interested in the months and years to come. Io Interactive is also working on another mysterious project, which will be neither a Bond or Hitman game, so there are exciting times ahead.
