A New Rayman Is In Development, With Creator Michel Ancel Consulting
Ubisoft has started development on a new Rayman game, and series creator Michel Ancel is working on the project as a consultant. The company’s Milan and Montpellier studios are in the “exploration phase” for the title.
Eurogamer received confirmation about a new Rayman game from Ubisoft, after Insider Gaming reported a remake was in the works for the franchise. “We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand,” a Ubisoft spokesperson said. “The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.”
Ancel is the original creator of Rayman, but in 2020, he was investigated by Ubisoft for allegations of creating a hostile work environment. This came shortly after Ancel resigned from the video game company. He also outright denied the allegations at the time.

Ubisoft Montpellier’s involvement in this new Rayman project is also of note because it recently spearheaded development on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Earlier this week, Ubisoft stated the team behind the metroidvania game had been “shifted to other projects.” It’s possible this Rayman game is one of those “projects.”
The original Rayman game came out in 1995 and was a side-scrolling title. If this new project is a direct remake, the expertise of the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team would make sense.
Rayman last appeared in DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for Nintendo Switch. The last entry in the main series for the mascot was 2013’s Rayman Legends.
