A Valheim Player Is Filling His Server With Dollar Generals To Mess With His Friends
As though life in Valheim’s viking purgatory isn’t already fraught enough, one player is filling his server with Dollar General stores and chain restaurants, to the exasperation of his friends. Just like in real life, the dreary, fluorescent-lit box stores started with just a single location, and have since spread to multiple biomes across the server.
The saga started when X user Greg the Sorcerer, as picked up by PC Gamer, posted a screenshot of a Dollar General store lovingly recreated in Valheim, saying he was “pissing off my friends in Valheim by building Dollar Generals.” The attention to detail in the store is pretty impressive, with an eye-catching glowing sign on the front facade and fluorescent lighting in the interior.
Greg’s friends started popping up soon after, with user Paladin Posting sharing a screenshot of the same building with the caption: “WTF is a Dollar General. Why is it in my Valheim server.” Another user, Woman Mage, also shared a view of the building from a different angle with the caption “this is just absurd.”
Greg’s next build stepped the challenge rating up a notch, braving deathsquitos and Fulings to build another Dollar General in the scenic reaches of the Plains–another location that was quickly spotted by the exasperated Paladin Posting.
A giant laughing face emoji set up near the first Dollar General was the last straw for Paladin Posting, who posted a screenshot with the caption “I do not want to play Valheim with Greg anymore.” In a reply to a comment, the user said they had soon after destroyed the emoji.
While it seems Greg hasn’t made any new Dollar Generals since then, he has instead branched out into other chain brands. Greg built what is seemingly Valheim’s very first Waffle House in the middle of the swamp–complete with a kidnapped skeleton manning the counter. Paladin Posting has also discovered this location, complaining that “the service here is shit.”
The latest update from Greg shows a modern McDonalds perched on top of a frozen mountain. In response to a comment, Greg said that each building took him around two to three hours to make, but the alpine McDonalds took a bit longer as he had to level out a section of the mountain to build on.
Commenters on X can’t get enough of the incongruous chain stores, challenging Greg to expand his empire by putting brands like Spirit Halloween or Denny’s in one of Valheim’s more dangerous biomes.
Valheim has been in early access since early 2021, with Iron Gate studios slowly expanding the game over the years. The studio is currently working on its final biome, the Deep North, which will arrive with the game’s 1.0 release. However, there’s still no release date for the final update, which has been in the works since mid-2024.
