All map events in Nightreign and their rewards
Elden Ring Nightreign has a single map at the time of writing, and that’s Limveld; a smaller, albeit no less dangerous iteration of the base game’s Limgrave. That said, this map is often transforming and regularly home to different, random events that you may have run into, and you might be wondering exactly what you’re supposed to do during these events.
Whether it’s transformative Shifting Earth events, surprise raids, or other randomly occurring map events in Nightreign, we’ve listed all of them and exactly what to do during them below, as well as what rewards you can expect!
All map events in Nightreign and their rewards
Below, we have categorised all of Nightreign’s map events into one of two categories: Shifting Earth events and random map events.
Shifting Earth events are occurrences that will completely transform a portion of Limveld, such as The Crater, while random map events are a little simpler, and consist of a random encounter while on an Expedition.
All Nightreign Shifting Earth events
Shifting Earth events will appear after defeating Nightlords in Nightreign, and they typically last anywhere between three and five Expeditions. These are huge, dangerous areas that you should typically dedicate most of – if not the entirety of – Day 2 of your Expedition to, if you wish to complete the majority of objectives there.
It is not currently known how to retrigger these events once they disappear and you have beaten all Nightlords; the only way to repeat events right now is by playing with other, newer players who have the events active.
The Crater
The Crater causes a huge, volcanic pit to spawn in the north of Nightreign’s Limveld. The goal for this area is to carefully parkour down into The Crater – defeating the various bosses along the way – before reaching a Magma Wyrm at the very bottom.
Kill the Magma Wyrm, and you’ll be free to use an altar directly behind it which allows you to turn any weapon in your inventory into a legendary armament. It’ll also remove the level requirement for that weapon.
To then leave the area quickly, use the Spectral Hawk found opposite from the altar.
The Mountaintops
The Mountaintops spawns in the northwest corner of Limveld and honestly, is my least favourite Shifting Earth event. The reward gained from the area is highly situational and you’ll only really benefit from it if facing a specific Nightlord or if your team happens to be running Frostbite where possible.
In this area, you want to use the Spiritstreams and chains to try and climb to the red/orange quest objective – at the very top of the mountain – on your map. There’s plenty of bosses to kill along the way, most of which will drop anti-Dragon or anti-Frostbite buffs, which I recommend grabbing. If you run into any Freezing Dragons along the way, skip these until you have claimed the area reward. Trust me!
At the top of the mountain, you’ll claim your reward from beneath a blue crystal: a huge resistance to Frostbite as well as increased attack power when Frost is in the vicinity. That’s a good buff, and you’ll now be able to safely take down the Mountaintops’ Freezing Dragons, but it’s no good if you’re not coming up against or actively using Frostbite in battle.
In our guide to The Mountaintops, we specifically recommend queuing for a certain Nightlord if you plan on doing this area, as the buffs will make that fight a lot easier; I won’t spoil which boss that is here, but do look at our The Mountaintops explainer if you wish to know more.

Rotted Woods
The Rotted Woods event in Nightreign is one of the simplest to complete, and it’s also a great way of getting lots of Runes quickly. Found in the southeast of the map, you’ll be afflicted with Scarlet Rot the moment you set foot in the area, but don’t fret, we can put a stop to this shortly.
Go to the castle in the Rotted Woods – which is marked with a red/orange quest marker on your map – and collect the map from the top of it. The red quest marker on your map will move now; go there, and you should see a large flower with a legendary item inside of its bud.
Grab the legendary item – which is the Rotted Woods reward – to gain complete immunity to Scarlet Rot as well as a life-gain mechanic. This means that when you take damage, it won’t come off your HP right away, and you’ll be able to attack to then regain that HP. It also gives you a short grace period for using a Flask if need be, and it’s all around one of the best rewards in my opinion.
There’ll also be multiple Great Enemies in the Rotted Woods, more than you would typically find in Limveld. Using your new-found power, it’s highly recommended to rush through all of these Great Enemies while you can. You’ll wind up with plenty of Dormant Power drops and of course, Runes, and this is one of the best ways to try and guarantee you’ll hit Level 15 during a run.

Noklateo, the Shrouded City
Noklateo, the Shrouded City spawns in the north of Nightreign’s Limveld, and is one of the best Shifting Earth events currently present in the game. Noklateo, which takes after the likes of Nokron and Nokstella from Elden Ring, is a huge city packed to the brim with enemies and it’s so much fun to explore.
If you want to claim the reward for this area, you’ll want to dedicate all of Day 2 to this area and not waste any time at all. There’s a full route to the ‘end’ of the area in our Noklateo, the Shrouded City guide, but the short of it is that you want to head deeper into the city, using Spiritstreams, until you eventually come to a grand hall with a familiar face inside: the Naturalborn of the Void.
I hate this particular boss and all bosses like them more than anyone out there, but in Nightreign, it sure as hell feels good to have three of you pummeling the horrible beast to death (and he feels a lot easier compared to his base game counterpart).
Once you defeat the Naturalborn of the Void, you’ll be able to interact with the altar behind them to claim a free revival from death; this applies to everyone in your team who picks it up, and means that if you’re all simultaneously wiped out during the upcoming Nightlord, you’ll all be able to get back up again and keep fighting one more time!

All Nightreign random map events
As well as Shifting Earth events, Nightreign’s Limveld can also throw some other minor random events at you, with some of these being exceedingly rare.
Fell Omen
Sometimes, if you’re unlucky – or lucky – the Fell Omen will randomly spawn on you and your team during the day in Nightreign.
If you manage to defeat him, you’ll be given a reward that boosts your attack power each time you discover a new Site of Grace. If, on the other hand, you die to him, you’ll not only lose a level and your Runes, but your damage taken is increased for the rest of your time in Limveld.
Cyclones
You can identify Cyclones in two ways in Nightreign. On your map, a dark blue-black circle will appear around some Ruins or a Great Church indicating a Cyclone is present, and as you approach the area, you’ll see the large grey Cyclone hovering above the POI.
These Cyclones – which are one of the more common random events in Nightreign – indicate the presence of an NPC Invader that will take on the form of one of the Nightfarers you’re playing as. Sometimes there is just be the one Invader, and sometimes there’ll be three, but either way, they’re tough and you’ll want to make sure you have a few levels before tackling these.
They are worth tackling, though, as the Invader will often drop a +2 version of their weapon and plenty of Runes.
Surprise Second Night Boss
During one of my earliest runs of Nightreign, myself and my team defeated an Ancient Dragon as our Night 2 boss. As we grabbed our rewards and prepared to be transported to the Nightlord, we were all left lost for words: a second Night Boss – a Nox Dragonkin Soldier – spawned as we’d all collected our Dormant Power drops.
Fortunately, your Flasks and such are restored between fights, but yes, there is a chance for a second Night Boss to randomly spawn after you defeat the first. This is good, really, as it means you’ll be able to go into your fight with the Nightlord with even more Runes and thus, levels.

Walking Mausoleum
While it appears to be exceedingly rare in Nightreign, there is a chance that you’ll drop down into Limveld and on your map, there’ll be a Walking Mausoleum marked for you to visit.
When one spawns, a deep red circle (not to be confused with the orange/red quest marker that Remembrance quests and Shifting Earth events spawn) will appear on your map where the Mausoleum is located.
If you then head on over and climb inside, you’ll be able to duplicate one of your weapons. This is great if you wind up with some impressive weapons on Day 2 and wish to quickly duplicate them – either for yourself or for your team – before your fight against the Nightlord.
Meteor
Sometimes in Nightreign, you’ll receive a message that a meteor has landed. If you then open your map, a red circle is added to the map where this meteor has striked Limveld.
If you head on over here, a Fallingstar Beast Jaw will have randomly spawned for you to fight. Good luck!
SPOILER WARNING: Below, I’ll be name-dropping some Nightlords associated with the below random map events. There are no spoiler images.
Swarm of Locusts: Sentient Pest Raid
Sometimes, a Swarm of Locusts may appear during your Nightreign Expedition. These are black/purple clouds of insects that will explode when in contact with you or a teammate, before then stealing a level from you.
If you wish to get your levels back and see what the Swarm of Locusts is all about, you’ll need to follow the locusts across the map towards an invisible boss (which is a smaller, less powerful version of the Sentient Pest Nightlord).
How are you going to find an invisible boss? Well, fortunately, the health bar for this boss appears as you approach. You then just need to attack them to reveal their appearance and begin the fight. Defeat them, and you’ll gain a reward that lets you gain a significant amount of runes by attacking enemies on occasion. You’ll also get an achievement for completing the Sentient Pest Raid.
Demon’s Curse: Equilibrious Beast Raid
The Demon’s Curse event is a lot like the above event, but it has a few quirks. When the event occurs, you’ll be notified that a demon has spawned and will then be cursed with having your Maximum HP reduced drastically. It then becomes your goal to track this demon down – who will appear as a red circle marked on your map – and lift the curse.
Upon finding the demon, which is actually the Scale-Bearing Merchant/Equilibrious Beast Nightlord, you will be able to pay him to lift the curse and provide the Demon’s Plating buff (increases attack power based on possessed Runes) instead. On Day 1, this fee is 15,000 Runes, and on Day 2, this fee is 35,000 Runes. That said, only one Nightfarer needs to pay the fee on the behalf of the entire team, if you’re playing in multiplayer.
Alternatively, you can fight the Merchant, which prompts a mid-Expedition fight with the Equilibrious Beast who is incredibly tough. We don’t recommend doing this as losing the fight means you’ll be afflicted with another, frankly awful, punishment. You’ll also miss out on the chance to make a more fruitful deal with the Scale-Bearing Merchant.
If you choose to pay the fee to lift the curse, you can then talk to the Scale-Bearing Merchant once more to make a deal. Though, this isn’t really a deal, as in this instance, he’ll simply give you one of the things you request; that might be Runes, Flasks, or other useful perks.
Bubbles: Augur Raid
You’ve landed in Nightreign’s Limveld, your Expedition is going swimmingly, and then all of a sudden, a huge cluster of bubbles begins chasing you and your team down. “There’s bubbles chasing me guys!” you scream at your allies, as they, too, begin to panic over what the hell is going on.
If you approach these bubbles or let one of them catch up with you, you and your team will be taken into a fight with Nightlord, Augur. That said, this particular boss is much easier than their Nightlord counterpart, and of all the Boss Raid events listed above, this one is the most pleasant.
Take down this weaker version of Augur and you’ll be rewarded with a buff that means using your Flask of Crimson Tears will simultaneously restore your FP (on top of your HP).
