While Japan’s famous martial arts get more screen time in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s also renowned for its unique crafts and forms of painting, many of which you can display in your hideout.
However, some of these masterpieces are in danger, as the violent wars gripping the country threaten to torch or sack the castles they’re displayed in.
At Kano Painting School in central Kyoto, Naoe and Yasuke speak to Kano Eitoku as he moans about a flaky mercenary who’s left him high and dry as he tries to recover his life’s work. Sensing the pair’s resourcefulness, Eitoku asks them to retrieve his paintings from across Japan in the castles they were being exhibited in before they’re destroyed or stolen.
Kano Eitoku was a real person who lived and worked in the time contemporary to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Unfortunately though, most of his paintings were in fact lost in the fighting of the Sengoku period. But in-game you’re given the chance to right some of that historical wrong and save them for future generations to enjoy.
The Art Collector quest will take you to most of the provinces in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ huge map, with the exception of the southernmost province, Kii, and easternmost province, Iga. The majority are found in Settsu around Osaka and in Yamashiro around Kyoto, but you will have to travel a fair distance north to Wakasa to complete the set.
