Assassin’s Creed Shadows Godai Shinobi locations

Known throughout Japan as masters of the ninja arts, the Godai Shinobi of Koga are revered warriors and dangerous enemies. But in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Naoe and Yasuke are charged with defeating the corrupted Godai Shinobi who turned to a life of banditry and deceit following the Koga clan’s defeat at the hands of Lord Nobunaga.

There are five Godai Shinobi to defeat in total: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind and Void.

You receive the quest to track down and defeat the Godai Shinobi from Shotei, former master of the Koga ninjas, after killing the member of the Shinbakufu known as “the Naginata”.

The targets should all be around your current level when you finish that story arc, and can be found throughout the provinces of Omi and Iga in the northeast section of the map.

To begin finding the Godai of Fire, track the quest Pyrophobia from the target board and help the terrified beggar. He is in northwest Sakamoto in Omi, near a farmhouse by the river. This is quite a way northwest of the town, outside the walls and into the fields to the west.

When you arrive, you find the beggar beset by bandits. Fight them off, then speak to him. He’s in a bad way and babbling about evil demon spirits punishing the defilers of Enryaku-ji Temple. That’s a temple to the west of your location, and your information on the Godai of Fire updates to give you the following three clues:

  • He can be found in Omi
  • He is in northwestern Mount Hiei
  • He lingers near a burning pagoda

That burning pagoda isn’t Enryakuji itself, but the still burning remains of a pagoda at the Hiei Foothill viewpoint just to the north.

Continue north past the pagoda and a little down the path you’ll find the Godai meditating by the roadside. Sneak up and extinguish him as he rests.

For defeating him you get the Cindersteel Tanto and armour damage with combo ender engraving.

Godai of Water

Next on your list is the Godai of Water, who is simpler to find in some ways but can be tricky to pinpoint. To help, you get the following three clues:

  • She is in Omi
  • She is north of Sakamoto
  • She is in a swamp by Mangetsuji Temple

Mangetsuji Temple is on the peninsula between Sakamoto and Ado River Valley.

The Godai of Water sits meditating looking out onto the sea. Sneak up behind her for some easy damage, but the uneven terrain makes this a relatively one-sided fight.

For winning, you get the Typhoon Tanto and Buildup with Abilities engraving.

Godai of Earth

Secluded in an inaccessible part of the mountainous region of Iga, the Godai of Earth is a tough man to find. You only get the following clues to go on:

  • He is in Iga
  • He has been seen in central Hijiyama
  • He is northeast of Kuroda Village

Although his location is described in relation to Kuroda Village, the Godai of Earth is actually found at Otaniinari Shrine, right next to where it says Hijiyama on the map, south of Hijiyama Fort and Watchtower viewpoint.

In the middle of the shrine, the Godai waits, chopping wood. Again, sneak up on him to get the advantage in the ensuing fight, then claim the Rooted Thrust Tanto and Damage with Bleed engraving.

Godai of Wind

While the other Godai Shinobi have been found at locations which somewhat resemble their namesake, the Godai of Wind is the toughest to find of the lot.

The Godai of Wind is in Iga, north of Ichinomiya in Otogi Pass.

From Aekuni Kakurega in Ichinomiya, go north to the Buddhas of Shimagahara.

Follow the path around to Shimagahara Valley and you will find a trail of dead leading to the Godai, along with notes about Naoe and the Godai’s mission.

Climb the tree next to the path and you see the Godai of Wind playing the flute in a dark bamboo grove.

The arena is very dark, but luckily the Godai’s purple poisoned Kusaragami gives her away. You get the Iron Dispute Tanto as a reward as well as the adrenaline on headshot engraving.

In the legendary chest behind her, you get the Masked Death legendary Katana, as well as the Charged Posture after dodge engraving.

Godai of Void

Finally, with all of the elements defeated, all that’s left is the Void. To track down the Godai of Void, you get the following three clues:

  • His hideout is in Omi
  • It is in eastern Goshiki Outlands
  • It is near Odani Destroyed Tenshu

The Goshiki Outlands are right up in the top right-hand corner of the map, and the Godai of Void can be found in the top right corner of that area as well.

The easiest way to find him is to ride up to Nagahama, then ride northwest until you see a path up the mountain. Here you find the battling city of Odani, which you can sprint through without catching too much ire. At the top of the area, you find a tall pagoda with a viewpoint, which is the Odani Destroyed Tenshu.

You can drop down into Odani and interact with blue markers to get some more information about the Godai of Void, which gives you another quest to rescue some fearful travellers on the road further to the east.

Speak to them and you get the precise location of the Void: in a cave at Daikichiji Temple.

As you enter the cave you can’t do anything about him ambushing you, but once you’re victorious, you can claim the Call of the Void legendary Tanto and Damage to Tagged Enemy engraving.

On your return to Shotei in Koga, he thanks you for your work and hands over the Shining Tatsu Legendary trinket, as well as the Armor Piercing for Tanto Mastery engraving.
