Atomfall Dr Garrow quest guide

Atomfall has an array of interesting characters for you to meet, with some of them being much more important than others, given that they can help provide you with a means for escaping. Dr Garrow is one such important NPC, and while she has a little bit of an attitude – and quite the reputation for it – it’s hard not to trust her wit.

The mind behind the useful Signal Redirector tool no doubt has a solid means for escaping this place, right? Well, if you’re hoping to find out, here’s our guide to completing Dr Garrow’s quest in Atomfall.

Atomfall Dr Garrow quest guide

To truly kick off Dr Garrow’s quest in Atomfall, you first need to free the scientist from Skethermoor Prison. There are two ways you can go about this, and they’re as follows:

  • Captain Sims route: You can earn Sims’ trust by dobbing in one of the villagers to him, such as Vicar McHenry, Morris Wick, or Iris the baker. He then asks you to question Dr Garrow, giving you a pass to freely enter the prison without any of the Protocol Soldiers becoming hostile towards you.
  • Windfall Shipment and Crane Controls route: If you collect June’s Key from The Little Tea Room in Wyndham Village, and unlock June’s Lockbox in the back of the Village Hall, you’ll end up following a trail of notes that lead you to the Windfall Shipment, where you can get the Signal Redirector tool. Use this tool and the Crane Controls Keycard (in the Interchange) to unblock a path to the Detention Quarter, which acts as a stealthy way to get to Dr Garrow’s cell in the prison.

Once inside Skethermoor Prison, go and speak to Dr Garrow in her cell. She’ll tell you a little about the Signal Redirector tool she has been using, and then ask you to use the same tool to free her from her cell.

If you have not already collected the Signal Redirector from the Windfall Shipment mentioned above, you will fortunately find a second Signal Redirector on a shelf in the prison’s Security room. This is in the same room as Dr Garrow.

To then free Garrow, you want to climb over the ledge – which is in the same room as Dr Garrow – and into the Electricals room. Here, you can use the Signal Redirector on the power junction shown in the below image, which then unlocks access to the Control Room for you.

Once inside the Control Room, all you need to do is go upstairs and pull the lever to free all inmates, including Dr Garrow. That said, all of the prison’s soldiers and guards will now become hostile towards you, so you’ll want to quickly flee the place.

You can rendezvous with Dr Garrow in the Interchange’s Central Processor next, where she’ll quickly put you to work retrieving some notes from the lower level of Robotics for her.

To do this, you’ll need to go to Robotics (accessed via powering Data Store Charlie using an Atomic Battery), and restore power to the large grey door labelled ‘lower level’.

This is done using the Signal Redirector tool, which you’ll need to use on a power junction inside of the Power Control Beta room (you can use the Signal Redirector through windows) and on two power junctions inside of the Robot Assembly room. You can then pull the levers in either room, and then the one in front of the door to the lower level, to proceed.

In the lower level of Robotics now, you’ll need to prepare to use the Signal Redirector again to open the door up ahead, and to power down some drones patrolling the area. There are also some robots you can stealthily avoid if you don’t fancy fighting them.

Around the area, there are three consoles you need to interact with – A, B, and C – that will ultimately open the door to Weapons Testing.

Inside, you can loot the Head Office Keycard from a corpse – thus, allowing you to enter the Head Office which is up some stairs in the back of the area that multiple robots were patrolling – where you can finally retrieve Garrow’s notes before exiting back out into the Interchange.

Meet with Dr. Garrow inside of the Interchange’s Central Processor again, and she’ll have another task for you. She wants you to visit the Dam Data Store in Casterfell Woods and run the GEN ERA command on the console there, and gives you the Dam Data Store Keycard to help with doing so.

If you’ve collected the Church Cellar Key and met Dr Holder prior to this, Dr Garrow will mention that you can tell him about her location if you want to. If you want to finish Dr Garrow’s quest, do not tell Dr Holder about her location whatsoever. If you proceed to tell Dr Holder where Dr Garrow is, he will rock up to the Interchange and shoot her, ultimately killing her and ending her quest prematurely.

Inside of the Dam Data Store, you need to use the Signal Redirector (again!) on the power junctions in the facility to restore power to Control Room (all while avoiding the robot patrolling the area).

Once you access the Control Room, however, Joyce Tanner will radio you (if you have simultaneously been advancing her quest). She will request that you run the GEN MOVE command instead. Ultimately, the command you choose to not run will lock you out of the associated NPC’s quest, making them hostile to you.

So, considering we want to complete Dr Garrow’s quest here, ignore Joyce Tanner’s request and prepare for her to be hostile if you see her again. If you have not advanced Tanner’s quest yet, she will not contact you in the Dam Data Store.

Once you restore power to the command console via the Data Store’s Control Room, input the GEN ERA command and return to Dr Garrow in the Interchange. Her final task for you is that you retrieve a sample of Oberon for her before destroying it, and then she will aid you with your escape.

So now, it’s a case of reaching Oberon Dig Site at the very end of the game, which is accessible after fully restoring power to the Interchange and opening all Interchange doors.

Inside the Oberon Dig Site, you’ll need to retrieve two Atomic Batteries from around the area (unless you already happen to have some spare ones stowed away in a Pneumatic Dispatch Tube). These then need to be placed in either side of the Extraction Drill Battery Terminal by the Control Room, and will provide power to the sample extractor.

Now, before grabbing a sample of the gargantuan organism, you’ll also need to run around the Dig Site arming multiple explosives. These allow us to ultimately destroy Oberon once we have retrieved our sample.

When the explosives and the sample extractor are both ready, return to the Control Room and use the sample extractor lever first. You will see the sample being placed into a canister by a machine on the bridge to the left of the dig-site. Go and grab it, then return to the Control Room.

Last, but not least, pull the Self Destruct Console’s lever to destroy Oberon for good. Now, all you need to do is track down Dr Garrow, who is now in the Head Office on the lower level of Robotics, and give her the sample. Enjoy your ending!
