Verdansk returns to Call of Duty: Warzone next month. Ahead of the release, Activision has shared a new video to reveal that Infinity Ward’s original Verdansk map has been completely rebuilt from the ground up with new technology, but it still aims to be faithful to the original design.
Warzone launched with Verdansk five years ago, and now players will get to experience the map with improved visuals and lighting, as shown in the video below.
Activision reveals that the remake of Verdansk is a collaboration between Beenox, High Noon Studios, and Raven Software developers, with the intention to capture the original map with the new technology that’s now available.
“We wanted to keep this nostalgic feeling, while also upgrading it with new technology,” says Simon Duschesne, an environment artist for Beenox.
The developer discusses the changes to lighting for Verdansk, saying, “It (Verdansk) includes a new high-resolution sky, improved bounces, the reflections improved, light map quality and accuracy, and a better transition between interior and exterior.”
The video includes several iconic locations from Verdansk, including Prison, Airport, Dam, and Downtown Verdansk, showcasing how they look with the overhauled lighting and graphics. Prison is a point-of-interest highlighted as an example where the ambiance of the map stays the same, but the lighting has improved to create better visibility.
“It’s the iconic Verdansk map you remember, brought to life with more detail, higher definition, and with the best technology available today to ensure it’s better than ever,” the developer says.
Verdansk returns on April 3 with the launch of Call of Duty Season 3. Warzone recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with a nostalgic OG Verdansk trailer, and Season 3 promo art teased the return of fan-favorite operators from both Modern Warfare and Black Ops games.
