Fate War is a strategy role-playing game that tasks you with slowly but surely expanding your town, inviting in new inhabitants, and developing a strong army that can take down various monstrous threats. When you’re not managing upgrades or training new axemen, you might find yourself spending Starglitter on recruiting new Heroes.
Heroes in Fate War are the characters who lead your armies. Their stats and how much you have leveled them up or upgraded their Skills will determine just how successful they’ll be in battle, and you’ll want to consistently win these fights if you wish to expand your town, gather supplies, and keep upgrading facilities and soldiers.
Without further ado, here’s our Fate War tier list, which details the best Heroes to spend your Starglitter on during the early-mid game.
Fate War character tier list
This Fate War character tier list features all three-, four-, and five-star characters, as Fate War’s three and four star units are incredibly viable during the early-game while you’re saving up fragments to recruit various five stars.
It’s also worth noting that Heroes in Fate War belong to specific categories, and these determine which armies they lead, which enemies they’re strongest against, and so forth. You’ll also find that some of these Heroes synergise well with one another, and should therefore lead troops together.
For example, Reinhardt is an S-tier who excels at leading Cavalry, defeating Blackforged, and open-field battles. S-tier Helda, on the other hand, excels at leading Axethrowers, sieging, and using Skills to inflict damage. Then you have S-tier Vista, a versatile and supportive character focused on healing troops, that you could pair with one of your more offensive Heroes quite easily.
You want to bear all of this in mind when going into battle and deciding who should lead each of your armies.

S-Tier
S-tiers in this list excel in combat, whether that’s by dishing out a bunch of damage or keeping troops healthy and alive during battle. High-damage troop leaders include Amaterasu, who launches attacks at foes, buffs her troops, and can turn some of her damage received into damage dealt, as well as Reinhardt, who has multiple damage-dealing skills, an additional damage buff against Blackforged, and the ability to buff the movement speed of his troops.
Another S-tier is Helda, who excels at leading axethrowing troops and sieging, with her kit allowing her to not only damage enemies, but reduce any healing they may receive too. Her passives also allow her to buff the attack and defense of her troops.
S-tier Iris, on the other hand, is a much more supportive leader, with a kit based on healing her troops and nearby allies, and dispelling any debuffs. You of course won’t get as much damage out of her as Amaterasu, but she’s great at leading Beast Rider troops alongside more offensive Heroes and increasing the entire troop’s survivability.
Another supportive S-tier character is Vista, whose kit – like Iris’ – focuses on buffing allies and debuffing foes rather than her own offensive output. She’s also a versatile supportive character, able to be paired with a wide range of troops and fellow Heroes, such as the equally versatile Amaterasu.
Other S-tiers worth looking at, if you happen to recruit them, include Reid and Erin. Reid excels at leading – and primarily defending – Berserker troops, increasing their HP and defense, while reducing their damage taken. He can also use his skills to heal himself while simultaneously reducing the attack power of the enemy too. This makes him a good pairing with more offensive units that lead Berserkers, such as Karl or Voll.
Erin is the last S-tier in our Fate War tier list. As a cavalry leader who excels at dealing with Blackforged, she’s someone you could consider pairing with Sara, Reinhardt, or other Blackforged-fighting specialists, especially given Erin’s more offensive kit.
A-Tier
Moving onto our A-tier characters — who are still great, but may fall to the wayside once someone with better, shinier stats comes along — we have Voll, Sara, Selena, Karl, Kiana, Kalthas, Aelfwine, and Kaira. Selena, a hero who excels at fighting Blackforged, field combat, and leading cavalry has been a personal favourite.
Selena’s primary attack damages foes while also decreasing their attack and movement speed. Her other skills allow her to heal her troops, boost the movement speed and attack of any Cavalry troops she’s leading, and boost the damage her Cavalry troops deal to Blackforged. She’s a great all-rounder for clearing new areas of any threats, and can pair nicely with Sara’s ability to deal extra damage to Blackforged foes.
As for Sara, this A-tier unit can lead multiple types of troop, and her kit – like Vista’s – focuses on debuffing foes and buffing allies, though she is capable of inflicting her own damage by hurling boulders at enemies. These boulders reduce the HP, attack, and defense of foes. On top of that, she also deals additional damage to Blackforged, so you’ll want to bear her in mind when facing those enemies.
On the other hand, Voll is an offensive A-tier who excels at leading Berserker troops, capable of dishing out huge amounts of damage and buffing the attack of his troops. If his troops HP manages to remain above 70% too, his High Morale skill also allows for him to ignore a portion of the enemy’s defenses when attacking. You want to pair him with a more supportive or defensive character such as Reid, Vista or Iris.
Aelfwine is a defensive A-tier unit who’s best paired with more offensive Heroes, but you can also pair him with the defensive Reid, as both units will deal damage and debuff their opponents. Aelfwine will heal soldiers based on their damage dealt, increase EXP earnt, and boost a troops defensive stats whenever they’re healed. He can even deal some damage of his own with the Valhalla’s Grace skill, all dependent on the damage dealt by the troop.
Kaira is an offensive unit that works well with Reinhardt, as she benefits from his buffs to movement speed and enemy debuffs. Kaira’s kit debuffs foes while damaging them, with her passives having a chance to increase the length of these debuffs. As a Hero that excels at leading Axethrower troops, she’ll also buff their attack, and she can even reflect debuffs inflicted on her troops onto the enemy.
Kiana is another powerful unit, capable of hurling ice meteors at foes and healing allies. She excels at leading beast rider troops, and is versatile when it comes to combatting various types of enemies, meaning she can be paired well with a wide range of Heroes. Alternatively, Karl excels at leading Berserker troops, and his kit is all about debuffing his foes. He can damage them, reduce their HP, provide shields to his troops, and even burn foes. He makes a great leader, especially when paired with a defensive Hero such as Reid or Aelfwine, or someone more supportive yet versatile, such as Vista.
B-Tier / C-Tier
Our B-tier and C-tier sections of this tier list feature Fate War’s four-star and three-star rarity characters. These characters don’t perform as well as rarer characters such as Amaterasu and Reinhardt, but throughout the early-game, you’re offered plenty of resources for building them and might as well use them. Baldur is one character whose materials and resources are given to you as you play, and while he’s one of the weaker characters in Fate War, he can certainly carry you to victory during early-game chapters and beyond.
Eventually, you’ll be able to pair your weaker characters with stronger S-tier ones as you progress, making up for your low-tier characters’ pitfalls while you save up more Starglitter for more impressive Heroes.
A good rule of thumb is to be on the lookout for Heroes that synergise together well: is one Hero able to support and defend the other? Do their skills complement one another’s kits? Are they both experienced in leading the same troop types or taking on the same enemy types? If the answer is “yes” to at least two of these, then those Heroes can probably work with one another. As you progress further into Fate War, however, you’ll want to fine-tune your Heroes skills and who you pair them with when going into combat.
