After a nearly two-year hiatus, the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise is making a return this year with its next mainline title, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. During Sony’s latest State of Play, the first trailer for Secret of the Mimic laid out the mission at hand and why Fazbear Entertainment is so eager to get its hands on the tech. But it may be a one-way trip for any employee who accepts the task at hand.
The Mimic made its first appearance in the spin-off book, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Tales from the Pizzaplex #1: Lally’s Game, before making an in-game debut as one of the antagonists in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’s Ruin DLC. The Mimic is a prototype that can adapt and disguise itself as any of the costumed animatronic characters.
As related in the video above, The Mimic’s creator, Edwin Murray, has gone missing, and the player’s character is meant to retrieve his work on behalf of Fazbear Entertainment. But judging from the briefing, Fazbear may not be expecting anyone to come out of that mess alive. It even warns the player to put their affairs in order before attempting the mission.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic will release for PlayStation 5 on June 13.
