HoYoverse announced the Genshin Impact 5.8 banners during the game’s most recent livestream, and while the summer banners are traditionally Just A Bit Okay, this year’s looks like a pretty big deal. For one thing, the brand-new character is the first from Nod-Krai and comes with a long-overdue Electro-Charged update. The banner’s reruns bring three Natlan characters back for their first reruns as well, including one who quickly rose to the top of Genshin’s meta game.
Below, we break down who’s coming to both phases of the Genshin Impact 5.8 banners and what to expect from them.
Genshin Impact 5.8 banners phase one – Ineffa and Citlali
The first round of banners goes live with the version update on July 30, 2025, or July 29, depending on your time zone. Ineffa is Genshin 5.8’s only new character, and Citlali joins her for her first rerun. Ineffa is an Electro polearm user whose big battle feature is that she converts Electro-Charged – one of Genshin’s weakest elemental reactions – into Lunar-Charged, which deals extra Electro damage and can cause critical hits.
Citlali stormed the field, so to speak, with Hydro and Pyro resistance reduction. With Mavuika having just debuted, and Furina teams at their height, those were two very good resistance reductions to have. She’s still an excellent support unit for those reasons, and her shielding and Cryo application are almost unmatched.
Genshin Impact 5.8 banners phase two – Mualani and Chasca
Three weeks later, on August 20, 2025, Mualani and Chasca come back to the forefront. Mualani is a Hydro catalyst user whose pet shark – who also doubles as her unique Natlan movement ability – can mark enemies so they receive extra damage. She’s unusual for a catalyst user in that she’s meant as a main DPS and can attack quickly while dealing heavy damage.
Chasca is an Anemo polearm wielder, though the polearm turns into a gun when she uses her abilities. Chasca’s unique feature is that she infuses her bullets with the party’s different elements, which makes her excellent for triggering not just Swirl, but any other Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, or Electro reaction as well.
