There’s plenty to keep us all engaged with Helldivers 2 in-game Galactic War right now. While he’s keen to emphasise that game remains Arrowhead’s “main focus” now and going forwards, studio CEO Shams Jorjani has chatted a bit about the studio’s plans for its next game in his latest chinwag with players on Discord.
If you’re out of the loop, the studio deployed a huge Illuminate push towards Super Earth earlier this week, as well as dropping some new features and a patch full of weapon balancing.
Reflecting on the journey Helldivers 2 and its creators have been on since launch in his latest Discord visit, Jorjani wrote: “the wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you FINE people Arrowhead’s future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn’t have otherwise. Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you.”
Naturally, that triggered some concern from folks that the studio might be shifting away from HD2, with one player responding: “This makes it sound like you’re already abandoning a good chunk of dev time and money from Helldivers 2”.
However, the exec was quick to offer reassurance, writing: “Nah. It’s ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time.”
He also added in response to another player wondering whether this next game will suffer the same region-locking purchase-wise that Helldivers 2 has by asserting: “The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we’ll call 100% of those shots.”
As for how long content updates for Helldivers 2 – a game Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt has previously suggested may well grow into Helldivers 3 just by keeping on adding stuff to it – will keep coming, Jorjani was clear that there’s ciurrently no set endpoint in sight. “As long as you folks keep playing and buying super credits we can keep it going,” he wrote, “Last summer we were kinda screwing the pooch so it looked like we wouldn’t be able to keep the train going for a long time – but we turned the ship around, you support us a lot so it’s looking bright.”
So, no reason to worry about Arrowhead winding up work on Helldivers 2 soon, and some hints at cool stuff to look forward to further down the line. Now you can go back to helping save Super Earth.
