The Everdark Sovereign version of Fissure in the Fog has arrived in Elden Ring Nightreign, giving players the opportunity to take down an enhanced version of the ice dragon. As is to be expected from Everdark bosses by now, Everdark Fissure in the Fog has an entirely new phase, with new moves and more opportunities to damage you and your fellow Nightfarers.
This fight, which strikes a perfect balance between challenge and spectacle, only gets better with its Everdark version, as well as that bit more tough. To help you out with what to expect and defeating the boss, here’s how to beat Everdark Fissure in the Fog in Nightreign.
How to beat Everdark Fissure in the Fog in Elden Ring Nightreign
Before you set out on an Expedition to defeat the Everdark Fissure in the Fog in Elden Ring Nightreign, there are a few things to bear in mind ahead of the fight that can help your plight massively. The first is by making use of the Shifting Earth event, the Mountaintops, which provides all manner of buffs useful for the Fissure in the Fog fight, as well as being aware of the boss weaknesses and resistances.
On top of that, we’ll be referring to Fissure in the Fog as their alternate name, Caligo, from here on out!
Here are some things to note during your Expedition and before taking on the boss:
- Trigger the Mountaintops event if you can afford to. This Shifting Earth event provides a reward and multiple passive effects that help with countering Frostbite and dragons, and are therefore ideal for taking down Caligo.
- Caligo is weak to Fire primarily. Use a Relic that adds Fire damage to your starting weapon, or visit any Fire encampments/churches in Limveld.
- Caligo is resistant to Lightning, Magic, Holy, Frostbite, and Sleep, so don’t bother looking out for or using these.
- Nightfarers you want to consider using include anyone who’s highly mobile, or can possibly dish out ranged attacks: Wylder and his hook – as well as his Ultimate with Fire added to it via a Relic – are a good pick, as well as Duchess if she has any Relics that boost her kit around Frostbite, and Ironeye, as always, with his Mark (that helps build stance damage) and improved Item Discovery can never go amiss.
- Try staying underneath Caligo and attacking their legs. Their attacks will typically target in front or behind of them – depending on whether they’re using breath/claws or their tail to attack – so staying directly beneath them to attack is your best bet. You will need to flee when Caligo uses roar or breath attacks though, before running back to them again.
- Aim for Level 15, and try to upgrade your gear. Considering Caligo is enhanced during this Everdark fight, you and your team want to ensure your level and equipment are as good as can be too. Defeating every boss in the Mountaintops – and Limveld’s castle, if it spawns – is a good way to guarantee getting Level 15. This requires careful time management though.
We can’t stress enough how useful the Mountaintops Shifting Earth event is for taking down Caligo in Nightreign. The area reward gives you a buff that greatly improves your resistance to Frostbite, as well as a buff to your attack power when Frostbite is in the vicinity, and there’s lots of Frostbite around during the fight against Caligo.
On top of that, the area bosses – which include trolls, demi-humans, and ice dragons – will typically drop at least one passive effect related to combatting Frostbite or dragons. These are helpful for taking down the ice dragons in the area, which act as good practice for your upcoming fight against Caligo.
For an overview of Caligo’s first/second phase moveset during this fight, take a look at our guide on how to beat Fissure in the Fog (original version), which details all of his standard attacks and how to counter them.
At around 50-60% HP remaining, Caligo begins to shroud itself in purple smoke. Be sure to create some distance between yourself and the boss, as she’ll soon release a blast around her. This signals the start of her third phase, where she uses her standard attacks as well as some new ones, and her previously blue clouds of Frostbite can now also be purple at points.
One thing to note when entering Caligo’s third phase is that the icy armor on her body can be broken with enough attacks, and once it’s shattered, she’ll begin to take more damage. Bear this in mind and try to destroy armor across her body throughout the fight whenever she regenerates it!
Below, we’ll run through any of Caligo’s new attacks and tricks that you ought to be wary of, and how to counter them.
- Tornadoes: Watch out for Caligo’s head glowing purple. Soon after they do this, they’ll unleash a purple pillar followed by a huge blast in front of them, which conjures a large, slowly expanding tornado around Caligo temporarily. Much like the tornadoes seen during the fight against Everdark Gaping Jaws, you want to stay inside of the current to prevent taking damage. You can also stand outside of the current, unlike the Everdark Gaping Jaws fight, and wait for the tornado to soon dissipate. You just don’t want to get caught inside of the tornado!
- Projectile Rocks: Projectile Rocks, conjured from Caligo’s wings, will be an attack you’re used to. During Caligo’s third phase, however, these are enhanced; there are more rocks being flung at your for longer. These rocks can be weaved in and out of and easily avoided, but beware of Caligo putting a spin on this attack, and unleashing rocks that explode shortly after landing.
- Projectile Icicles: As well as projectile rocks, Caligo can now summon purple projectile icicles from their wings during their third phase. These will explode shortly after landing on the ground, and will leave a large pile of icicles behind that you’ll want to steer clear of until they dissipate.
- Freezing Breath: Freezing Breath attacks aren’t new for Caligo, but they’re a lot more formidable in her third phase. Watch out for her breathing directly below her, and be sure you’re not attacking her legs while doing so. Additionally, avoid the icicles sometimes left behind by Caligo’s breath attacks.
If you make the most of the Mountaintops’ buffs, and luck is on your side when it comes to finding Fire-inflicting weapons and levelling up, defeating Fissure in the Fog isn’t nearly as patience-testing as Everdark Gaping Jaws or Everdark Augur.
