The long wait is over: more than 10 years after the game’s debut, The Sims 4 has finally added the much-requested fairy occult type to the game! Previously playable in The Sims 3, fairies gained a lot of popularity despite their comparatively short-lived presence in the franchise, thanks to their visually appealing design combined with their innate puckish ability to cause the sort of mischief The Sims is known for… but with added magic.
If you’re getting the Enchanted by Nature expansion pack, chances are good that you’re keen to start playing with some Fairy Sims as soon as you can. To keep you from having to wait any longer than you already have, below we’ve put together a step-by-step guide outlining how to become a fairy in The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature.
How to become a fairy in The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature
Naturally, the easiest way to get yourself a playable fairy in The Sims 4 is to make one in Create-A-Sim, where occult life states can either be selected from the outset when creating a new character or switched to using the selector at the top of the Simology pane.
With cheats enabled, you can even use CAS.fulleditmode to turn your pre-existing Sims into fairies using that last method, which is a great solution if you want to enfairify a fey-inspired character you made before this pack was announced.
In this guide though, we’re mainly focussing on how to have a human Sim turn into a fairy through gameplay, since that’s the most unique route to fairydom – and also the one that will be most unfamiliar to long-time Simmers.
First, the wannabe-fairy Sim needs to obtain a Fairy Seedling. This can be obtained through various means: it can be found as a random drop from foraging or as a random reward for completing Fable quests for townies in Innesgreen, ordered via a computer, or you can ask a Fairy Sim directly.
The latter is probably the quickest way to guarantee that you’ll get one other than just buying it online, since fairies are easy to identify and seem quite happy to share their gifts with others.
Once you have a Fairy Seedling in your inventory, simply plant it in the ground outside. There’s no need to wait for it to grow; instead, you’ll receive a pop-up asking you to confirm that you meant to summon Mother Nature, since she’s coming right now. If you decide against it for now, you should get your seed back, allowing you to try again at a more convenient time.
Accept Mother’s visit and she’ll spawn in somewhere very close by, allowing you to talk to her and ask her for Mother Nature’s Charm. The subsequent interaction results in your Sim gaining a Focused moodlet that lasts just three hours. Your third and final step towards fairy-hood is underway, and on a timer!
If you’re not already there, travel to the neighbourhood of Everdew in Innesgreen as soon as your Sim possibly can. The local landmark of Moondrop Springs is the last stop on your enfairification tour – luckily, it’s quite visually distinctive, appearing prominently in the north of the neighbourhood map with its rainbow-coloured waters falling off into unseen space beyond.
Bathe in the waters using the special interaction granted to you by Mother Nature’s potion before the moodlet expires, and your Sim will instantly transform into a fairy! Though they’ll spawn with a random pair of wings, you’ll be prompted to go to CAS and edit their new occult appearance, including selecting from a much wider selection of wing colours, shapes, and sizes, along with unique flourishes like horns and vibrant skin tones.
How to reverse Fairy status in The Sims 4
Given that fairyhood is so clearly delightful, it seems rude to suggest that you might want to cure it. But perhaps one day, some of your Fairy Sims will wish to relinquish their occult status – and luckily, there is a straightforward way to do just that.
Undoing a Sim’s Fairy status requires you to simply repeat the steps to becoming a fairy outlined above. Summon Mother Nature with a Fairy Seedling and ask her for a charm, drink the potion she gives you, and bathe in the Moondrop Springs again before the moodlet expires to revert your Sim to a regular old human.
