Changing hair color in Where Winds Meet is rather more complicated than you might be used to in most RPGs. While you can acquire some new outfits and cosmetics by playing the game, most new hairstyles come from the in-game shop or gacha system. Limited and permanent banners feature unique, rare clothing that includes new hairstyles and colors, though you’ll naturally need the right currency to pull on them. And as with all gacha games, there’s no guarantee you’ll get what you’re after.
Below, we explain all the ways to change hair color and style in Where Winds Meet and what currency you’ll need to do it.
How to get hairdye in Where Winds Meet
You can alter your hairstyle in the character customization menu, but not the actual color. The only way to do that is to acquire hairdye items in the in-game shop – under the “items” section of the shop menu – for 50 Echo Beads. This is Inkshade Hairdye, which is actually more than just one color. It lets you pick basic colors, like black, brown, and so on. We’re assuming this will be a standard fixture in the item shop, though NetEase may add different variations in the future.
You can also enter the “Draw” menu and the Draw Shop to spend Essence of Earth, a currency obtained by using draws. It’s the same Inkshade dye there as it is in the standard shop, at least during Where Winds Meet’s first month, and it costs 5 Essence of Earth. The Essence of Heaven shop only has clothing dye.
Then there’s Timeless Hairdye, which only comes from the Draw shop and costs 1 Harmonic Core. Timeless dye lets you change your hair color to something more vibrant, and you get five of them in one go. You have a roughly 70 percent chance of getting a Harmonic Core when you spend Echo Beads for a draw.
Some outfits you can pull for with Echo Beads on the Celestial Echo banner also include a new hair color. This isn’t really a dye, since it comes in a fixed color, but it is, at least, different from the color you start out with. Each draw costs 150 Echo Beads, and, as this is a gacha banner, there’s no guarantee you’ll get the outfit set you’ve got your eye on.
How to change hair color in Where Winds Meet
It’s a bit of a process, and not an intuitive one.
- Open the “Appearances” menu
- Navigate to the “Workshop” tab
- Select “Dye”
Then, pick the hairstyle you want to color. None of the standard, starting hairstyles are dyeable, so if you haven’t acquired any additional styles yet, you won’t be able to change your hair color. Once you do have other styles, select the “dye” option, choose your color and gradient, and you’re good to go.
