The ability to form a friendship with Seed Shop stallholder Sam isn’t technically on-theme with the rest of Grow a Garden‘s Fairy Event, but have you considered that the true magic was the friends we found along the way? See, it all makes sense now.
Sam has been a familiar sight in the garden almost since the very beginning, but it’s only with the most recent update that he became fully befriendable. And perhaps unsurprisingly, the way to this man’s heart is through his stomach: you increase your friendship level with Sam by handing over food to him, and receive extra and rare seeds as a reward.
Read on for everything you need to know about how to feed NPC Sam in Grow a Garden, and what he’ll give you in exchange.
How to feed NPC in Grow a Garden
To feed Sam in Grow a Garden, you’ll simply need to have a cooked meal in your inventory equipped to your hand. The Cooking Update may be over, but the recipes you learned are still coming in handy! Take a look at our Grow a Garden recipes list to see all your options for what to feed Sam.
While holding any such dish, approach the Seed Stall and talk to Sam. You should see an additional “Feed” dialogue option alongside the usual one enquiring about what seeds he has in stock.
Note that you can only feed Sam once every 24 hours, as handing him a meal initiates a cooldown that currently can’t be skipped or circumvented.
Sam won’t specifically request meals, but it’s worth noting that higher-rarity recipes equate to bigger friendship boosts, as follows:
| Recipe rarity | Friendship points |
|---|---|
| Common | 1 |
| Uncommon | 2 |
| Rare | 3 |
| Legendary | 4 |
| Mythical | 5 |
| Divine | 6 |
| Prismatic | 7 |
| Transcendent | 8 |
Once you have accumulated a total of 15 points, your friendship with Sam will hit Level 2.
This unlocks a second tab in the Seed Shop catalogue, which contains additional seeds that are not in the current rotation. The stock often includes seeds more rare than those in the regular shop, and can even include seeds from past events!
