How to get Roaming Oak Timber in Heartopia

Heartopia might be the peak cozy gaming experience – enough cute and varied tasks to keep you absorbed, absolutely zero drama to worry you. During my time so far with the game’s closed beta test, I’ve encountered only one problem I couldn’t figure out how to solve right away: the question of where to find Roaming Oak Timber.

Whether this becomes an issue for you will depend on which order you’re completing quests in and which crafting pieces catch your eye; but still, I’m guessing I’m not the only person who will have encountered the need for Roaming Oak Timber through a building tutorial quest before hitting the point in the main storyline where you can start collecting it.

If this is the case for you too, don’t worry, as below I’ll explain exactly how to get Roaming Oak Timber in Heartopia.

How to get Roaming Oak Timber in Heartopia

To collect Roaming Oak Timber in Heartopia, you first need to complete the main story quest “Astralis in Forest”. In this quest, you’ll meet the rangers Patti and Cassie, who both have a series of tasks they’d like you to complete. At the end of her task chain, Cassie will task you with finding Oak-Oak, Patti’s “energetic friend”, who is “trapped in hardship”.

Despite Cassie gloating that this is a really tough challenge, you’ll actually get a quest marker leading you directly to Oak-Oak’s location, so don’t worry too much about solving the riddle. | Image credit: VG247 / XD

Oak-Oak is a walking, talking tree that likes to roam about the island, but has a tendency to get stuck in the ground. Follow Cassie’s quest prompt to Oak-Oak’s current location nearby and use your pulaski to free it from its roots (which is hands-down the most violent thing I’ve seen happen in Heartopia, but also 100% something the tree wants you to do to relieve its distress and which apparently doesn’t hurt it, so it’s fine). In doing so, you’ll collect three pieces of Roaming Oak Timber.

Cassie also asks you to bring back “proof” of your rescue of Oak-Oak, but she won’t actually deprive you of one of your precious Roaming Oak Timber pieces, so again don’t worry. | Image credit: VG247 / XD

Upon your return, Patti will rejoin you and Cassie, and regale you both with the story of how she first came to learn about the Astralis; from this tale, you’ll also learn about Patti’s friendship with Oak-Oak. The Astralis brought them together to bond over their shared love of travel and adventure, but unfortunately, Oak-Oak’s roots are continually growing, and every day it becomes stuck in the ground again somewhere on the island.

From this point on, you can track down Oak-Oak once per real-world day to repeat the action and collect three pieces of Roaming Oak Timber, which can then be used for crafting higher-end objects like furniture and garden décor.

Among other uses, you need Roaming Oak Timber to craft trees for your own garden at home. Don’t overthink it. | Image credit: VG247 / XD

Note that you are limited to just those three pieces per day, which is one of the few ways in which Heartopia really caps your ability to make quick progress. Therefore it’s best to be fairly selective and plan ahead of time what you want to craft with your precious Roaming Oak Timber resources.
