If you, like the rest of us, rolled Human as your race when starting your playthrough of The Forge, it might be time for a change. While every race is technically viable for a solid playthrough, if you’re playing as one of the game’s more common races, you’re likely missing out on some pretty powerful stat boosts, exclusive abilities, and, most importantly, looking really, really cool.
However, The Forge tucks its race reroll menu away in a spot that’s fairly hidden, so it’s understandable why you’re here. Here’s everything you’ll need to know about rerolling your race in The Forge, including how to do it, what it’ll get you, and how rare each race is.
How to reroll your race in The Forge
To reroll your race in The Forge, hit the backpack button on the right side of your toolbar to bring up the game’s menu. (If you’re on a computer, you can also hit T.)
This will bring up a menu with your inventory, index, achievements, and quests. To reroll your race, you’ll want to head to the yellow ‘Shop’ button on the right side of the menu. Once you’re there, scroll to the right until you see the ‘Rerolls’ section and then hit the ‘Go to Race Menu’ button at the bottom of the section. Finally! You made it.
To reroll, you can hit the big ‘Reroll’ button under your character. (If you need rerolls, you can usually grab some free ones by using codes.) Rerolling will automatically replace whatever race you have, so be careful!
There’s a workaround for this, though. Once you hit level 30, and again at level 100, you’ll unlock a race slot, which lets you save a race in case you’re shooting for a rarer one but want to save your currently equipped race. If you’re close to hitting level 30, I’d recommend waiting to roll until you have your first slot – it’s not worth trying to upgrade from Orc to the much rarer Demon just to end up back as a boring old Human!
While the reroll button is clearly the star of the show here, it’s also worth paying attention to the rest of the screen as well. On the right side, you can see the chances of rolling each race. Once you’ve rolled a race you’re happy with, you can see its perks on the left side of your screen. These typically include some standard stat boosts as well as an occasional special move – I’m currently playing as a Shadow, which gives me a neat 15% chance to turn into a shadow and dodge attacks whenever I take damage.
While it’s fun to aim for the impressively rare Angel or Demon, when you’re rolling, it’s also worth considering your playstyle and loadout. In addition to that special move, Shadow (aside from making my character look really cool) gives me some nifty boosts to movement and attack speed as well as stamina but takes away 10% of my health as part of a pact. If you’re struggling to stay alive during combat, for example, Shadow’s health deficit might end up making your playthrough even trickier, which isn’t ideal.
