How to upgrade shops in Tamagotchi Plaza

If you’ve ever played the Tamagotchi Corner Shop series of games, you’ll likely be well aware what the gameplay loop in Tamagotchi Plaza is. You work diligently at various shops, slowly upgrading them with the Gotchi you earn, and eventually unlock more, secret shops to work at as a result.

There’s plenty more to do in this Tamagotchi installment when you aren’t working, such as decorating or errands for the townspeople, and these all lead to some adorable interactions. First things first, let’s get to work making Tamahiko Town the place to be. Here’s how to upgrade shops in Tamagotchi Plaza.

How to upgrade shops in Tamagotchi Plaza

To put it simply, to upgrade shops in Tamagotchi Plaza, you must work at them. This means venturing into the Dentist or Manga Shop and taking part in the mini-games each shop provides to please customers and send them home happy.

Regardless of which shop you are currently working at, all shops in Tamagotchi Plaza have roughly the same steps to follow if you wish to upgrade them. These are as follows:

  1. After approximately five happy customers, Prince Tamahiko will visit. Ensure his experience is good, and he’ll suggest you upgrade the shop.

  3. Prince Tamahiko leaves, and the shop manager prompts you to spend 150 Gotchi to upgrade the shop’s rank to Mecchi level (level 2). Do it!
  4. After approximately 10 more happy customers, Prince Tamahiko visits again, and will prompt you to upgrade the shop if you provide him with a good experience.
  5. Once Prince Tamahiko leaves, you are prompted to spend 450 Gotchi on upgrading the shop’s rank to Gotchi level (level 3).
  6. After approximately 15 more happy customers, Prince Tamahiko visits. You know the drill.
  7. Once the Prince leaves, you are prompted to spend a whopping 2200 Gotchi on upgrading the shop’s rank to max level, Royal (level 4).

In my experience, a happy customer is a customer who rates their experience with two smiley faces or more. While three smiley faces is the highest score a customer can give us, and ultimately what we’re aiming for, a score of two smiley faces appears to be more than fine.

For example, I accidentally served Prince Tamahiko a galette that he scored just two smiley faces, rather than three, but I was still able to upgrade the Galette Shop after his visit. When I gave him a less-than-satisfactory workout at the Gym, however, he had no interest in offering a shop upgrade, and I had to serve some more customers before he eventually returned.

As you upgrade the rank of your shops, you’ll notice their exteriors become bigger, and the options and/or tools available to you during their mini-games become more extensive. For example, as you start out at the Dentist, you’ll mainly be dealing with cavities. As the shop’s rank increases, you’ll get to kit Tamagotchis out with braces and more.

On top of that, as you take part in the minigames at every shop and increase each of their ranks, you’ll eventually gain access to secret shops in Tamahiko Town! Keep your eyes peeled for those.
