As is the case with any challenging RPG, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is home to many important materials and resources that you’ll want to use to enhance your build and improve your chances during fights. The most important resource of them all is in-game currency, Red Mercury, which you’ll be using to level up.
Much like Elden Ring’s Runes, Red Mercury can be gained by slaying enemies or portions of it can be found out in the wild, but to make sure you’re making the most of it, here’s how to use Red Mercury to level up in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers.
How to use Red Mercury to level up in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers
Red Mercury is your in-game currency in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, and you’ll find your pockets laden with it as you defeat minor enemies and slay bosses. This currency is what you will use to level up via the Impetus Repository at any Shrine in the game, but it can also be used to buy items from Merchants such as Tao Qing and Wu Gang.
How much Red Mercury you have is shown in the top right-hand corner of the main menu, and this Red Mercury symbol will glow gold whenever you have enough currency to level up.
When the Red Mercury icon is glowing, it’s in your best interest to visit a Shrine, open the Impetus Repository, and choose to ‘Refine Red Mercury Essence’ (pictured above). This then converts your Red Mercury into levels, with each level improving Wuchang’s stats. Each level also provides you with a single Red Mercury Essence (though, more than this can be earnt throughout your playthrough).
Red Mercury Essence is a little different to raw Red Mercury, and can’t be spent at shops. Instead, this particular resource is solely tied to the Impetus Repository, and it’s what you will spend to unlock new Skill Nodes. These enhance specific stats of your choice further, and can unlock new weapon Disciplines, new Tempering Needles, and entirely new skills for you to use in battle, such as the ability to Clash and Deflect attacks.
How to get more Red Mercury in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers
Red Mercury is earned naturally throughout WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, as every enemy you kill will provide you with a small amount of the currency. Boss battles, of course, provide much higher amounts of Red Mercury.
In some instances, you will find items called Red Mercury Shoots or Budding Red Mercury while exploring, or slain foes may drop them. These items can be consumed via your inventory (shown above) or sold to a Merchant and will grant you even more raw Red Mercury to go about refining or spending.
The chances of foes dropping these when killed appears to be completely random, and I have had the same enemy drop these items more than once. So if you’re looking to level, killing anything and everything is your best bet, but as levelling up requires more Red Mercury, farming for the stuff will be an increasingly lengthy task.
