Fantasy and science fiction readers can add another Brandon Sanderson book to the to-be-read pile. Tailored Realities, a lengthy collection of novellas and short stories, is available now, and Amazon is offering a 30% discount on launch day (December 9). The hardcover edition of Tailored Realities is on sale for only $21 (was $30).. Walmart had the same deal, but the retailer is currently sold out of copies.
If you’re interested in buying the book as a gift for a Sanderson fan, you should order a copy soon. Amazon currently estimates a December 19-21 delivery window for Prime members. Tailored Realities is also available in ebook and audiobook formats. The collection made Amazon’s list of the best science fiction and fantasy books of December 2025.

Tailored Realities is a 448-page collection featuring 10 novellas and short stories. Though Sanderson is largely known as a fantasy author, Tailored Realities skews more toward science fiction. The biggest story is Moment Zero, a brand-new novel of roughly 200 pages. This apocalyptic sci-fi story follows two police officers who, while investigating a disappearance, find themselves in an alternate dimension filled with zombies and vampires.
Moment Zero is one of two alternate-reality sci-fi novellas included in Tailored Realities. The collection also features Snapshot, a 2017 sci-fi thriller starring two detectives who investigate a murder from within a dangerous virtual reconstruction of the past. Snapshot’s original hardcover edition was 128 pages.
The third novella in Tailored Realities is Perfect State. Originally published in 2015, Perfect State follows a god-like ruler’s first date with a goddess-like ruler of a different world. The highly rated novella is roughly 90 pages.
None of the stories take place in Sanderson’s Cosmere–the shared universe of The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn–but two shorter novellas are connected to his popular YA franchises. Defending Elysium is a prequel to Sanderson’s science fiction series Skyward. Mitosis is a side story that takes place between the first and second books in the superhero-action series The Reckoners.
The novellas are joined by five short stories, including “Firstborn” and “Dreamer,” which follows deceased gamers who take control of living humans to play high stakes games.

Brandon Sanderson: Skyward and Reckoners Box Set Deals
If you haven’t read Reckoners or Skyward, Amazon has deals on box sets for both series. A slipcased box set collecting all four Skyward novels released last month and is on sale for $41.31 (was $60). If you prefer hardcover books, you’ll want to check out Skyward’s 3-Book Box Set for $39 and pick up a copy of the final novel, Defiant, for $12 (was $21).
As mentioned, the Skyward novella in Tailored Realities is a prequel, so you don’t need to read the main series first. With the novella from the Reckoners series, however, you should probably wait to read it until you at least read Steelheart, the first novel in the series. The Reckoners Series Box Set is available in paperback and hardcover for $33 and $45, respectively.
If you’re interested in checking out Sanderson’s epic fantasy novels set in the fictional universe known as the Cosmere, one of Amazon’s Black Friday book box set deals is still available as of December 9. The Mistborn Trilogy Paperback Box Set is on sale for only $15.32 (was $35). Amazon previously had The Stormlight Archive 3-Book Paperback Box Set for only $17, but the price has since risen to $25 (was $39). The Stormlight Archive 4-Book Hardcover Box Set is actually slightly cheaper than its Black Friday price. The $160 slipcased set is available for only $72.68. The total page count for this weighty box set is 4,576. The fifth and latest novel in the series, Wind and Truth, is on sale for $16.30 (was $40) in hardcover. Wind and Truth is the longest entry in the series at 1,344 pages.
