Gameplay Tips & Tricks for New Players

Ву Malecious.

First of all, a lot of pausing – basically any time I had to do something in-game, the game was paused. Noting that, as from experience it is not clear to everyone playing these kinds of games.

Then a list of things that add up to the bigger picture:

  • Doing all the high subscriber neighborhoods (primarily for influence during the run, but as one can read above, apparently also helped with the number, so very important there too). If a mafia quest restricts stuff, then pick a subscriber quest that most likely won’t overlap with it (say mafia says no politics; do not take a sub quest that requires politics, or could require it via feeling tags).
  • Doing mafia quests and succeeding in them.
  • The primary thing you should spend inspiration on are the 3rd and 4th printer pages, and as those cost 8 and 30, that is most of your inspiration. I did also buy the guard thingy from the police, which I ended up using twice. Not necessarily necessary, although it might limit what news you can do, as mafia destroying stuff can suck.
  • Using the space available fully, and buying new floors whenever possible.
  • First of all, the printing machine should just sit on the highest floor. Before machine breaking is introduced, it can also be behind a wall that does not have a door, as no one needs to actually get to it. This is nice because then heat and sound do not spread, and thus do not need to be mitigated. Even later, one could just open up the wall temporarily for the repair guy, and then close it again.
  • Workers that move between desks (e.g., reporter brings paper to the letter guy, letter guy to printing guy) should be close to whom they bring their stuff to. In addition, reporters should be close to the main door, as they go outside a lot. Thus I ended up having reporters on the bottom floor, letter guys on floor two, and printer guys on floor 3. Telegraph dudes were packed up wherever I could fit them, and other people like cleaners also wherever they could fit.
  • Toilet in corner on some floor.
  • Besides the toilet and printer, there should not be walls anywhere, as those reduce available space. Open office all the way (man, this corp is ahead of its time in that regard, sadly for the worse).
  • Have 2-3 water posts, and space them out around the building, preferably 1-2 close to stairs. Being in good spots means that workers walk less on average → more work time.
  • Whenever you unlock a new decoration that boosts some skill, give it to everyone who can benefit from it. For example, at the start every telegrapher and society reporter should get a globe on their desk (and any future such workers). This can require a bit of work for the reporter floor later on, as there are quite many posters, etc., that can fit in. I sadly missed one bonus for one guy, but he was skill 0 in that anyway. Do not be afraid to put multiples of the same decoration for this, and space your reporter desks (if you have the space).
  • Comfort decorations wherever they are needed outside the printer room. Space out the pretty paintings on each floor with case-related workers, so that if there is paper trash, it won’t make them feel bad for that period while it takes a moment for the cleaner to do their job. Trash cans near every desk help with this too.
  • Try to get all news done every week. Some will be passed to the next one and can be useful there. Prioritize categories that are needed for your quests. As a tip, if a “mafia” tag is required for a mafia quest, then that one can be found in a fitting thematic news category (say when he talks about boxing → sports).

Optimize your newspaper:

  • Headline should be the one with the most combined value of bronze, silver, and gold tags. Do not worry about it being old news for this if old news has the most tags. My final scoring headline was old news.
  • Tag combos are a big thing, each one worth one bronze tag. So the rest of the headline page should be as many combos as possible. A two bronze tag article without combo is equal to a one tag article with combo. Old two tag with 1 combo is better than new two tag without combo.
  • The only limiter besides combos is that you generally want to print all silver and gold tags, and news that have many bronze tags.
  • If old and new news are equal, use the old one, so for next week you have more old news available.

Remember to keep stock of food and enough paper for workers. Printer paper buying manually (and dragging to machine) is also cheaper.

Prioritize (and sometimes even cancel other not important news, such as one tagger) news that have tags that you need for quests or are of high value (silver/gold).
