Wuhu Island is calling once more: Nintendo has revealed it’ll be taking us back to its well-travelled retreat for a spot of Joy-Con-powered action when Nintendo Switch Sports Resort comes to Switch 2 on 22nd October.
We first visited Wuhu Island back in 2007’s Wii Fit, and it’s returned on numerous occasions since then, appearing in the likes of Mario Kart 7, Wii Party, Smash Bros. Ultimate, and even 3DS game Pilotwings Resort. Most notably, though, it provided the setting for 2009’s Wii Sports follow-up Wii Sports Resort. Admittedly, none of that is particularly relevant to today’s Switch 2 announcement, beyond the shared setting – I just really like Wuhu Island.
Anyway, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort (weirdly not Nintendo Switch 2 Sports Resort, but maybe that’s why I don’t get the marketing big bucks) is once again all about the motion-controlled sporting action. And Nintendo has confirmed a total of 12 sports, with returning activities like boxing, table tennis, archery, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf and thumb wrestling joining newcomers skateboarding, power cruising, and prop plane flying. You can even twizzle your Joy-Con jump rope too, for a warm-up.
Somewhat non-specifically, Nintendo says players can “team up or challenge friends and family, or play solo”, and you’ll be able to represent yourself in game by creating a Mii character or a Sportsmate – the latter being the largely charmless avatars it introduced alongside Miis in Switch Sports.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is due to launch for Switch 2 on 22nd October, with pre-orders – if you must – starting on eShop today.
