Oblivion Remastered Independent Thievery Guide

Now that you’ve earned the right to call yourself a member of the Thieves Guild in Oblivion Remastered, it’s time to practice your craft by actually stealing something worth having.

The Independent Thievery quest tasks you will stealing a certain amount of high-value goods before fencing them off to your contact in Bruma.

However, many houses throughout Cyrodiil, even wealthy ones in the posher parts of the Imperial City, have nothing but pots, bans and the occaisonal bread roll laying around.

Here’s where you can find some highly-value stolen items to fence off in Oblivion Remastered, so you can get back to questing instead of roaming around where you don’t belong.

Where to steal high-value items for the Independent Thievery Quest

You can find relatively decent weapons and armor in guard barracks throughout Cyrodiil, however, these are heavy, don’t sell for a huge amount, and carry a high risk of getting caught. Here are a few ideas for better marks to hit.

Wine Cellars

For the earliest requirements where you just need a small amount of fenced gold in your pocket, the houses of the Imperial City – particularly the Temple and Talos Plaza districts – are good sources of vintage wine.

Tamika West Weald Wine might have a low value, but if you can grab 20 bottles of it, you’ll easily make your first assignment. Stalk the streets of the city looking for open or easily locked doors after nightfall, then slip into the cellar of the houses to grab the wine they’ve got stashed there.

Ayleid Artifacts

Or, if you’re looking to knock it out of the park early, head to Castle Chorrol where you find the Canvas the Castle quest.

On the staircase next to the Countess’s throne there’s a Varla Stone inside an unlocked cabinet just waiting to be pinched.

The 400+ gold this nets you alone should see you through a huge chunk of your assignments.

Also, if you’re tracking down Ayleid Statue locations for Umbacano, you can very easily steal back the original statue from his desk for another couple of hundred gold to add to your kitty.

Market District

Finally, in the Market District of the Imperial City, if you wait until midnight when most of the shopkeepers have gone to bed, many of the stores are only average locked.

Red Diamond Jewelry is the best store to pillage, mostly because you don’t have to lug around heavy armor or weapons to get to the gold amount you’re after. You find it across from the White Horse Courier in the middle of the shopping area.

While Hamlof Red-tooth is asleep, pick the key from his pocket then head back downstairs and open the “needs a key” display cabinets.

This will net you jeweled amulets and rings worth hundreds of gold. Return with your grab bag of loot to your fence in Bruma and sell to your heart’s content.

Between these three spots, you should have enough stolen property to get you through the whole set of Independent Thievery quests!
