You might be surprised by Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen’s Gym Leader order if Scarlet and Violet were your introductions to the Pokemon world. Where those two, and Legends: Z-A, let you pursue your goals pretty much however you saw fit, FireRed and LeafGreen follow the traditional structure of older Pokemon games and give you a set path to travel down.

  1. Brock (Pewter City, rock/ground): weak to grass, water, and steel
  2. Misty (Cerulean City, water): weak to grass and electric
  3. Lt. Surge (Vermillion City, electric): weak to ground
  4. Erika (Celadon City, grass): weak to fire, flying, rock, and ice
  5. Koga (Fuscia City, poison): weak to psychic. Also weak to ground, but most of his Pokemon have the Levitate ability
  6. Sabrina (Saffron City, psychic): weak to ghost and dark
  7. Blane (Cinnabar Island, fire): weak to rock, ground, and water
  8. Giovanni (Viridian City, ground): weak to grass and water

In general, having a ground type, fire or flying type, water type with an ice type move, and psychic or ghost type will see you through these battles with comparative ease. And you’ll be relying on them again during the Elite Four challenges, which include ice, fighting, ghost/poison, and dragon types.
