Finding TM locations in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen takes you off the beaten path most of the time, but it’s absolutely worth the trouble. These are often the only way for your Pokemon to learn powerful moves like Psychic and Thunderbolt, though there is a catch. Unlike later games, such as Scarlet and Violet, TMs are a one-and-done thing in FireRed and LeafGreen. You can use them once before they break. Some are available for purchase in certain areas, but the rest are single-use. Think carefully before deciding which Pokemon should learn what move.

There are 50 TMs in FireRed and LeafGreen, including some changes from Red and Blue that replace moves, like TM 50 being Overheat instead of the original Substitute. Here’s every TM location in FireRed and LeafGreen.
Where to find Thunderbolt in FireRed and LeafGreen
The only place to find the Thunderbolt TM is the Celadon Game Corner, which is a bit of a nuisance, as it costs 4,000 coins. If you’re not lucky at the slots, it’d cost $40,000 to purchase outright. Which is quite a lot, though Thunderbolt is definitely worth it.
Where to find Psychic in FireRed and LeafGreen
TM29 (Psychic) is one you can get for free by speaking to a man in Saffron City. He doesn’t want anything for it and just predicts (psychically) that you need it. He got that one right.
Where to find Earthquake in FireRed and LeafGreen
Earthquake is a reward for defeating Giovanni at the Viridian City Gym, which won’t happen until near the end of your journey. However, every rock-type Pokemon except Onix learns it naturally, so if you’re using any of those, don’t spend the TM teaching them.
Where to find Ice Beam and Flamethrower in FireRed and LeafGreen
Ice Beam and Flamethrower also come from the Celadon Game Corner and cost the same number of coins as Thunderbolt. Ice Beam is an essential move for upcoming battles in the Elite Four, but Seel and Dewgong, Shellder, and Lapras all learn it naturally. Unless you want Ice Beam on a Pokemon who doesn’t learn it normally, spend your coins and money on something else first.
The same is true for Flamethrower. Hold off evolving your Vulpix or Growlithe until they learn it, and you just saved 4,000 coins.
