Square Enix, still sweating from burying the corpse of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link yesterday, has posted a selection of screenshots of Kingdom Hearts 4 online to reassure fans that the much-anticipated sequel still exists. These screenshots feature scorching new reveals such as Sora’s face, a telephone, some girl, and Mickey Mouse standing on a chandelier. Brilliant.
These screenshots come courtesy of a social media post made on the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account, all composed into a mosaic of sorts. Alongside these pictures comes a message of thanks to the Kingdom Hearts fanbase, thanking them for their passion and patience.
“To our Kingdom Hearts community. We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!”
The post continues, “We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support.”
We’ve seen absolutely nothing from Kingdom Hearts 4 since its reveal in April 2022, during a Kingdom Hearts anniversary event. This reveal came alongside the now dead Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link reveal. The radio silence since then had resulted in the fan base placing its hope in Missing-Link which did have various public updates, the cancellation of which leading to an understandable despair taking the hearts of fans. Thus, this little message of reassurance. Something had to be said really, lest you leave the bad news to stew.
Does this mean we’ll see Kingdom Hearts 4 release soon? No! Probably not. We’ve still not got a release date for the game, and the English voice actor for Sora Haley Joel Osment had no idea when the game was coming out as of October last year. Chance are we’re still a few years out from actually being able to play Kingdom Hearts 4, so my recommendation is to buckle in and go on with your life in the meantime. Maybe let your real life keyblade gather a bit of dust.
