Tackle For Loss Reveal Trailer Is Taken Meets Hotline Miami

In 2008, Liam Neeson reinvented himself as an action star in Taken, a story about a former CIA officer who went to great lengths to rescue his abducted teenage daughter. That movie appears to be one of the primary inspirations behind Indifferent Penguin’s upcoming game, Tackle for Loss. But the unnamed hero of this game has his own set of unique skills to unleash on the people who dared to kidnap his daughter in Tackle for Loss’ reveal trailer.

One of the other inspirations for the game seems to be chronic traumatic encephalopathy–or CTE– a neurological disorder that is often associated with concussions suffered by American pro sports athletes, especially football players. The lead character in Tackle for Loss is aware of his condition, and the violence that it brings out of him. There’s also a touch of tragedy to his story, as he admits to not being able to remember his daughter’s name. All he knows is that he loves her, and he’ll get her back no matter how many bad guys he has to pulverize.

Tackle for Loss has a very retro visual style that seems reminiscent of Hotline Miami. The game does include some strategy by allowing players to unlock moves and upgrade their attacks as they progress through the story. Along the way, players will discover the truth behind the daughter’s abduction and uncover a deeper conspiracy connected to the criminal underworld that took her.

German game developer Daniel Wichterich created Tackle for Loss by himself for his company, Indifferent Penguin. The game doesn’t currently have a release date, but it is available on Steam’s wishlist.
