After launching digitally at the end of 2024, The Thing: Remastered is getting a physical release for PS5 and Switch on June 25. The faithful and well-received restoration of the 2002 cult classic is available to preorder now at major retailers. The Thing: Remastered is following the growing trend among remasters and compilations by having two different editions. Fans can preorder the game on its own for $30 or opt for the $50 Deluxe Edition, which is bundled with a steelbook case and several other collectibles.
The Thing: Remastered is a third-person survival shooter features 20 levels filled with monsters. Along with various quality-of-life improvements and new achievements, it benefits from enhanced textures and animations–PS5 owners can play in 4K resolution with up to 120fps.
Other recent and upcoming games with similar physical offerings include Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind.

Our The Thing: Remastered review gave it a 6/10, praising the improvements made to the gameplay. The visuals also received a significant overhaul, and the 23-year-old game looks nice on modern consoles. The graphical upgrades coupled with the chilling soundtrack help create a tense and unsettling atmosphere. That said, the combat system is rather repetitive, but if you’re in the mood for a straightforward PS2-era shooter, The Thing: Remastered is worth checking out.
And if you’d like to watch the film first before playing, Amazon has the original horror classic on 4K Blu-ray for less than $20. Along with 4K and 1080p Blu-ray discs, the 4K release includes commentary from director John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, plus outtakes and a theatrical trailer. You could pair it with the Blu-ray edition of the prequel, which released in 2011 with the same title, and The Thing From Another World (1951). If you don’t mind DVDs, The Thing 3-Movie Collection gets you all three films for only $10.
