The Mario Movie returned to 4K Blu-ray on March 4 with a new Walmart-exclusive edition that likely won’t be available for very long. The Super Mario Bros. Movie Limited Edition Steelbook is up for grabs for $28, down from $35. The artwork matches the ubiquitous yellow Question Blocks.
Just days after releasing the new edition of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Walmart revealed another exclusive 4K Blu-ray based on a Nintendo property: Pokemon. The 2019 movie Detective Pikachu is getting a new Limited Edition Steelbook on April 29. Preorders are available for $28 exclusively at Walmart and Gruv.
$28 (was $35) | Released March 4
Walmart’s new Steelbook Edition of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is modeled after the iconic Question Block from the games (and film). Instead of bopping it with your head to reveal its contents, it’s advisable to simply open it like a normal case. The interior design features landscape artwork of the large mushrooms depicted in the film.
The steelbook case has slots for the 4K Blu-ray and 1080p Blu-ray discs of the film. Like the original release, you’ll also get a digital copy of the film. The Mario Movie is available on Movies Anywhere, so you can add it to your library and watch on any of your devices.
Walmart initially priced the new edition at $28 before raising it to $35, where it remained throughout January and most of February. The price dropped back down to $28 a week before launch.
$41.63 | Sold out
Walmart restocked the Power-Up Edition Collectible Steelbook when preorders opened for the new edition late last year. This edition released in 2023 and promptly sold out at most major retailers.
Walmart had the original steelbook in stock recently, but it was going for $41.63 before it sold out. Earlier this year, however, Walmart was selling the Power-Up Steelbook Edition for $28, so we will update this article if stock is replenished. Resellers regularly sell this edition for $50 on Amazon.
The Power-Up Edition has a black case with a Super Mushroom on the front and back. The interior artwork is a landscape shot of the Mushroom Kingdom leading up to Princess Peach’s Castle. It also comes with 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and digital versions of the movie.
All editions of The Super Mario Bros. Movie contain the same special features. You can check those out below.
