What to do with Nirnroot in Oblivion Remastered

As you wander the forests and hills of Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered, you might just hear a distinctive, reverberating warble near bodies of water. No, it isn’t the coil whine from your console or PC as it grapples with the magnificent splendor of the newly remastered Tamriel, but a sprig of Nirnroot.

Nirnroot is a mysterious plant that’s started to spring up all over the landscape, but no one seems to know much about it.

When you first collect some, you’re given the quest “Seeking Your Roots”, which nudges you to ask an alchemist for more information. However, they’re none the wiser too.

Here’s what you need to do to learn more about the elusive alchemic item, Nirnroot, in Oblivion Remastered.

What to do with Nirnroot in Oblivion Remastered

To learn more about Nirnroot, you need to speak to the foremost expert on botany in all of Cyrodiil, the High Elf Sinderion.

His laboratory can be found in the cellar of the West Weald Inn in the northwestern corner of Skingrad, itself a city in the northwest corner of the map.

Show the strange, glowing plant to Sinderion, and he’ll remember an old recipe book he obtained from another adventurer which included detailed instructions for making an Elixir of Exploration, known as the “ultimate dungeon delver’s brew”.

While the potion sounded intriguing, one problem presented itself: the elixir needed Nirnroot – which was at that point a rare and forgotten resource.

Sinderion then says that if you can bring him more sprigs of Nirnroot he can finish the mysterious elixir so you can use some on your travels.

To complete his quest, you need to bring Sinderion a total of 100 sprigs of Nirnroot, which sounds like a lot, but there are more than 3 times that amount scattered across the map.

Once you’ve collected 10 Nirnroot, Sinderion will give you your first elixir before asking for 10 more samples to brew a stronger concoction. Each batch of Nirnroot gets you:

  • 10 Nirnroot – Weak Elixir of Exploration – Night Eye for 300 seconds, Fortify Health 20 Points
  • 20 Nirnroot – Moderate Elixir of Exploration – Night Eye for 300 seconds, Fortify Health and Fatigue 20 Points
  • 30 Nirnroot – Strong Elixir of Exploration – Night Eye for 300 seconds, Fortify Health and Fatigue 20 Points, Fortify Blade, Blunt, Destruction, Restoration, Sneak and Security 5 Points
  • 40 Nirnroot – Grand Elixir of Exploration – Night Eye for 300 seconds, Fortify Health and Fatigue 20 Points, Fortify Blade, Blunt, Destruction, Restoration, Sneak and Security 10 Points

Any extra Nirnroot you find can be sold to Sinderion for gold, but by that point in your game it’s a paltry sum. Really, once you’ve gotten all of the elixirs you can either stop picking up Nirnroot or use it for your own potions (if you’re alchemically inclined, of course).
