Where to get a Fire Opal for the Flame Priest in Prospecting

Stoically standing guard at the base of the Caldera Island volcano, the Flame Priest is a master of heat-resistant magic, but he can bestow his gifts onto you for the price of a rare and elusive gemstone.

The scalding magma which fills the Magma Furnace and Infernal Heart is Prospecting is one of the few things that can hurt your character in this otherwise chill experience. However, if you want to claim some of the rarest and most valuable materials, you’ll need to find some way of braving the heat. That’s where the Flame Priest comes in.

For the price of a Fire Opal, he can cast a protective ward which shields you from the burning flames. The only wrinkle is that getting your hands on a Fire Opal, while you can’t actually pan in the burning-hot magma, isn’t a simple task.

Here’s where you can get a Fire Opal for the Flame Priest in Prospecting, as well as the steps you can take to give yourself the biggest chance of finding one. Where to find Fire Opal in Prospecting

The Fire Opal is a Legendary tier material available from the following locations:

  • Volcanic Sands
  • Magma Furnace
  • Infernal Heart

However, panning in the Magma Furnace and Infernal Heart is literally the reason you want a Fire Opal in the first place.

This means your only option is to try and find one in the Volcanic Sands, which is the area around the Caldera Island town, but that can be tricky.

First, as a Legendary item, the drop rate of Fire Opal is very low. This means you will most likely have to boost your Luck modifier as high as possible to even have a chance of finding one. While you can do this with one of the best Pans in Prospecting, for a Legendary to actually drop, you will probably need either a Luck Totem from the Shard Merchant or Luck Potion from the Alchemist.

Unlike some locations, Volcanic Sands is a relatively low-traffic area, meaning you’re going to have to bring your own Totem, unless you’re particularly lucky.

For the best results, and to hopefully ensure you don’t need more than one Totem, pan in the section of Volcanic Sands which is closest to the town. That way you can pan efficiently and dump your full inventories of other gems quickly to minimize lost time on your Luck Totem.

Once you’ve claimed a Fire Opal, all you need to do is take it back to the Flame Priest to receive the ward and venture down into the depths of the volcano in search of treasure.
