ZZZ Trigger build and teams

ZZZ Trigger builds look rather different than what you might be used to doing for the RPG’s other stun agents. Trigger is designed to stun, sure, but she also deals far more damage than the likes of Lycaon or Pulchra. That, combined with a bonus ability that rewards you for increasing her critical hit rate, means you’ll need to treat Trigger like a sub-DPS.

Our Zenless Zone Zero Trigger build guide lists her best W-Engines and Drive Discs, with some Trigger team recommendations as well.

ZZZ Trigger W-Engines

Trigger’s signature W-Engine is Spectral Gaze, and like most signature W-Engines in recent ZZZ updates, it’s overtuned to the point where it’s almost another character. Spectral Gaze reduces enemy defense by 25 percent when the equipping character deals electric Aftershock damage to them, which Trigger is designed to do anyway. If the equipping character is off-field when the effect takes place, they get one stack of Spirit Lock and can hold up to three. Each stack increases the equipping character’s impact by four percent, and when they have three stacks, they get an additional eight percent impact buff. That’s a total of 20 percent extra impact. You also get crit rate from the secondary stat, which helps power Trigger’s bonus ability.

There’s a lot of talk at Trigger’s launch about how other options just aren’t good enough for her, though aside from the defense shredding, that’s not an accurate statement. The Restrained, for example, increases the equipping character’s damage and daze from basic attack by six percent and stacks five times for a total of 30 percent extra damage and daze. Daze and impact aren’t interchangeable, but having more daze is never a bad thing for a stun agent. That, and most of Trigger’s damage comes from basic attacks anyway. The Restrained comes with a high impact boost as its secondary stat, too.

Qingyi’s Ice-Jade Teapot is another effective S-rank W-Engine. It raises the equipping character’s impact with its secondary stat and gives them a stack of tea-riffic when they land a basic attack. Each stack increases impact by 0.7 percent and can stack up to 30 times for a total of 21 percent extra impact. If the user has 15 stacks or more, the entire party’s damage increases by 20 percent for 10 seconds.

The free Steam Oven leads the list of Trigger’s A-rank W-Engine choices. For every 10 energy the equipping character accumulates, their impact increases by two percent up to eight times for a total of 16 percent. A more niche option is Precous Fossilized Core. This one lets the equipping character deal 10 percent more daze damage if the enemy has more than 50 percent of its HP and an additional 10 percent daze damage if the target enemy’s HP is over 75 percent full. That’s an excellent set of buffs when you’re fighting boss enemies, but not as helpful against mobs.

[Vortex] Arrow is your best B-rank option. Its secondary stat increases the user’s impact, and it makes all their attacks inflict eight/12 percent more daze on their main target. The buff’s high end is much easier to reach since you can use Dennies to purchase more copies of Arrow at Sixth Street’s gadget store.

ZZZ Trigger Drive Discs

Trigger might be built different from most stun agents, but her purpose is still to stun enemies. Increasing her impact stat is an essential function of her Drive Discs, so the usual stun set, Shockstar Disco, is your best four-piece option.

  • Two-piece effect: Increases impact by six percent
  • Four-piece effect: Basic, dodge counters, and dash attacks deal 20 percent more daze damage to targets

Trigger’s off-field attacks count as basic attacks, so whether she’s your active character or just providing Aftershock damage, she’ll make full use of the four-piece effect.

You have some choice when it comes to the secondary set. If you’re struggling to raise Trigger’s crit rate, you could use Woodpecker Electro for an eight percent crit rate boost. Shadow Harmony raises Aftershock damage by 15 percent, to help Trigger’s best attacks hit even harder, and there’s also Thunder Metal, which raises electric damage by 10 percent.

ZZZ Trigger stats

Trigger’s bonus ability triggers (ha) based on her critical hit rate. For every one percent crit rate Trigger has that exceeds 40 percent, her Aftershock damage increases by 1.5 percent for a maximum of 75 percent. That’s quite a buff, and if you want the full thing, Trigger would need 90 percent crit rate – which is impractical without her signature W-Engine. Still, even with lower crit rate, Trigger still dishes out plenty of damage on- and off-field.

Aside from that, you’ll want attack, electric damage, and, of course, impact for her stats.

  • Slot 1: HP
  • Slot 2: Attack
  • Slot 3: Defense
  • Slot 4: Crit rate
  • Slot 5: Attack percent or electric damage
  • Slot 6: Impact

ZZZ Trigger skill priority

Most of Trigger’s damage comes from her basic attack, so definitely upgrade that one first. Her EX Special is also important and one you’ll want to use as soon as you can to enter Trigger’s special state without using Pulse. We don’t typically place chain attacks high on the upgrade list, since they occur so much less often than other types, but Trigger’s chain and ultimate multipliers are massive. Given her high daze output, you’ll likely have more chances to use chain attacks with Trigger than with most other characters as well.

So, TL;DR:

  • Basic
  • EX Special
  • Chain
  • Dodge
  • Quick assist

Trigger is designed for Anby Solider 0, so if you recruited her in ZZZ’s previous banner, definitely put them together. Aside from each activating the other’s bonus ability, Trigger’s kit lets Anby stay on-field to build White Thunder stacks without sacrificing daze buildup in the process.

Aside from that, Trigger is a lot like Qingyi in the sense that she works very well in any team as a support for a primary damage dealer, such as:

Her best support options depend on the team, but you can generally count on these:

What tier is Trigger in ZZZ?

Trigger is an easy pick for the S level of our ZZZ tier list, even if you don’t have her signature W-Engine just because her damage and daze multipliers are so strong. She’s only slightly stronger than Lycaon, but the difference is that she’s attacking much more often and leaves your main damage dealer room to do their thing without giving up additional damage and daze.

Still, the fact that she’s only just stronger than Lycaon is important to keep in mind. If you have him, Lighter, Qingyi, or even a well-built Pulchra, you can safely pass on Trigger.
