Assassin’s Creed Shadows: The Betrayers locations
In almost every province of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Yasuke must hunt down The Betrayers – disloyal samurai, nobles and retainers who contributed to the downfall of Oda Nobunaga.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the turbulent Sengoku period is shown to be a time of war, violence and betrayal, with numerous factions crossing and double-crossing each other in their quest for prosperity and supremacy.
But at Miidera in the town of Otsu on the southern shore of Lake Biwa in Omi, Yasuke finds an old friend when he speaks to the samurai at the southern edge of the temple grounds.
Hori Hidemassa, a former retainer of Nobunaga, has sworn vengeance against the samurai and nobles who conspired to double-cross his lord. But, bound by his current vow of service, he can’t act on the information he has.
Hidemassa then asks Yasuke to seek out the traitors and bring them the only justice they deserve: a duel to the death.
The Betrayers start at level 26 and go up to more than level 30, marking them as a late mid-game slate of targets who can be found in almost every province of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ map.
Here’s where to find them all.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows The Betrayers locations
On this page:
Sato Katsubei
First on your list, Sato Katsubei has a relatively straightforward set of instructions:
- He is in Yamashiro
- He can be found in Yamazaki Castle
Yamazaki Castle is found quite far to the south of Kyoto, just above the border with Settsu and level with the town of Takasuki. So even though you know he’s there, you might not have explored that hinterland between two provinces.

Then, Sato Katsubei is in the eastern side of the castle, surrounded by armed guards, so it’s highly recommended to bring Yasuke (as it fits with the flavour of the quest too).
He wanders the garden next to the wall and is a strong samurai-style enemy who, like everyone else in the game, can be felled quickly by ability spam.
You get the Roaring Infamy Teppo and damage to afflicted enemies engraving for defeating him.
Fujichika Nakayama
Again, you supposedly know exactly where to find Fujichika but might not know where his specific castle is:
- He is in Settsu
- He works in the tenshu of Takatsuki Castle

You find Takatsuki Castle in the northern part of Settsu, just below the border with Kyoto’s province, Yamashiro.
The tenshu is the highest and tallest part of the Castle grounds, and you find Fujichika in the northeastern corner of the Castle, underneath the viewpoint.

He’s sitting with his retainers on the first floor. He’s noticeably shorter than many enemies, dispatch him as you would another other fighter.
When he does down you get the Ill-fated String bow, as well as a letter pointing you towards your next target, down south in Kii.
Endo Tomoyasu
Since Kii is a late-game area, you probably haven’t explored it much to know where the clues you’re given point to:
- He is in Kii
- He has been seen near Kongobuji Temple

You find Kongobuji Temple right in the middle of Kii, but Endo Tomoyasu is found just to the southeast, along the road and river running through Koyasan.

When you arrive, you find Hidemassa has already done the deed, fearing the consequences of some compromising information Endo had in his possession.
Sato Genta
With that, your leads run cold, so return to see Hori Hidemassa at Miidera in Otsu. He gives you a fresh set of information to take a run on the rest of your targets, including the following clues:
- He is in Omi
- He provides security for Azuchi Castle Harbor
- He sleeps at Nobutada Estate in Azuch Castle

Azuchi Castle is in the northeast Omi, with the Nobutada Estate in the middle of the grounds and the harbor in the northwest corner.

Since an assassin works at night, wait until nightfall and you’ll find Sato Genta in the building on the southern edge of the estate, sound asleep.
Sato drops the Sorrowful Surrender Katana and Critical Change on Consecutive Kills engraving.
Itakura Shigezo
Return again to Hidemassa and he’ll give you an extra clue for finding Itakura:
- He is in Harima
- He works in Himeji Castle
- He spends nights at a Himeji Brewery

Himeji is the major city in Harima, on the western edge of the area. You find the brewery as a white diamond between the moat and the river.

Itakura is drinking in the back yard, with a conveniently placed rooftop behind him enabling an air assassination. You get the Samurai Daimyo Armor and Adrenaline with backstab engraving for bringing him to justice in your own way.
Usami Yoshiko
To take down your next target, it’s time once again to check in with Hidemassa for the last clue. Speak to him and he tells you:
- She is in Settsu
- She can be found in the outskirts of Katano Castle
- Yoshiko has been repenting and lives across from a Christian church

Katano Castle is just to the north of Osaka in Settsu and you find Usami crying in a house next to the Ornament Vendor.

Approach her non-violently and speak with her. She says she was tricked into joining the subterfuge and has been tossed aside since the incident. You then get the choice of whether to spare her life or kill her where she stands. Either choice is valid and it doesn’t come up again.
Masatoshi Nakahara
Finally, Masatoshi is found in the late-game area to the west of the map, using the following clues:
- He is in Tamba
- He can be found in Kameyama Castle

Right on where it says Kameyama on the map, you find Kameyama Castle. However, Masatoshi can be tricky to track down.

He’s on the northern side of the castle, in a small courtyard on the ground level, surveying the severed heads of his enemies.

Burst in to spoil the party and try to focus on Masatoshi himself, otherwise it’s easy to get overwhelmed by tough, armored samurai who come to his aid. Don’t overstay your welcome once he’s defeated, for which you can claim the Warrior’s Garden Tanto, as well as the Assassination on Shadow Piercer engraving.
With the last of the betrayers dealt with, head back to Hidemassa in Otsu. He’s overcome with happiness that his duty feels repaid and you’re given the option of a romance dialogue to share a tender moment, or remain close friends and allies.
As a tangible reward, he gives you a lovely polished helmet that was given to him by Nobunaga, which you can marvel at the intricate craftsmanship of while you try not to think about how it definitely wouldn’t fit Yasuke’s much larger head, and a hefty chunk of XP.
