I’m a gamer, always have been.

Battlefield 2042 will finally receive infantry-only gameplay soon

Battlefield 2042 has implemented a host of fixes, added three classic Battlefield weapons to its All Out Warfare mode, and more via Update 2.1 for Season 2: Master of Arms on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The update has rolled out to Battlefield 2042 players on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today, and along with the fixes and map improvements, DICE has announced that an infantry-only-focused event will be unveiled soon.

Battlefield 2042 update offers map improvements and bug fixes

Update 2.1 rolled out earlier today with a ton of balancing tweaks and fixes for many parts of the game, such as balancing for attack and transport helicopters, improvements to Irish’s APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel so it also blocks M320 LVG and M26 Mass Frag attachment grenades, fixes to the hit registration of AM40 and Avancys bullets, and more. For a full rundown of everything affected by the update, check out the official Battlefield website.

Much like last month’s update, Update 2.1 has reworked another map in the game’s roster. This month it’s the Renewal map that’s received some love, and it looks like chunks of it have been taken away completely to allow games to flow better. DICE wanted to improve infantry and close-quarters gameplay across the entire map — the shining part of this map has always been the Synseco building’s multi-tiered layout. Now it’s supposed to be better all around, by moving flag and objective locations closer together so traversal time is reduced, an issue that’s plagued Battlefield 2042 since launch, some sections of the map have been removed, and the map’s terrain and objective areas have been updated with a large number of military fortifications that provide increased cover opportunities, while also sporting more destruction effects than Renewal’s original design.

But that’s just updates on what’s already there, and it’s always nice to receive something new — or the addition of something old that has never been featured in this particular game before. We can now use three classic Battlefield weapons from the Vault in the All Out Warfare mode: Battlefield 3’s P90, Bad Company 2’s GOL Sniper Magnum, and Bad Company 2’s M1911. On top of that, a new in-world vehicle has been added to offer you and your squad better mobility across uneven terrain, the Polaris RZR buggy.

Finally, if that wasn’t enough fun for you, DICE has also revealed that infantry-only gameplay is coming sometime in mid-October, albeit as The Liquidators Await event. Not much is known about it at the moment, and we expect the developer to reveal more closer to the time, but it’ll feature unlockable cosmetic items and close-quarters combat.
