DOOM: The Dark Ages Forsaken Plains walkthrough
DOOM: The Dark Ages’ The Forsaken Plains is the tenth chapter of the game, meaning you’re well on your way with ripping and tearing through demons at this point. During this chapter, you’ll be on a mission to restore power to the Slayer’s huge mech, the Atlan.
Not only that, but this particular level is home to another brand-new weapon; a super explosive one that’ll help greatly with waves of enemies. Without further ado, here’s our DOOM: The Dark Ages The Forsaken Plains walkthrough.

As we make sure to keep reminding you during our walkthrough, the map is your best friend in DOOM: The Dark Ages and you should use it regularly. It’ll reveal the locations of secret area or collectibles whenever you’re close to them, and you can also use the list on the right-hand side of the screen to check which collectibles you have so far, and which ones you’ve left to get.
A good rule of thumb is checking the map after any enemy encounters or completing any quest objectives, and be sure to scour it before heading past any points of no return.
Secret #1
Go ahead and deal with the first enemy encounter in DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Forsaken Plains, and you’ll then be able to grab the Rocket Launcher from an Arsenal drop. Neat!
Before stomping ahead, however, head over to the left of the area, where you should see a Flesh Node you can Shield Throw at (shown below). This allows you to jump on some platforms with some Gold Bars and a Life Sigil, and is our first secret location for the chapter.
Afterwards, make your way into the corridor beyond the Arsenal drop and past the point of no return.
Secret #2 and Collectible #1
In the next area, your objective is to destroy two Hell Cannons. There’ll be five different enemy encounters marked on your map too.
From where you exit the previous corridor, head right first towards the Sentinel Shrine shown on the below map.

Make your way past the trap-elevator to the right of the Shrine (taking care of the few enemies here), and once outside, there’ll be a trail of Gold to your right that leads to our first collectible, a Codex entry.
Go back on yourself and follow the remaining trail of Gold in this outdoor area to unlock a gate leading us back to the beginning of the level. Don’t go gallivanting just yet; instead, go back to the trap-elevator near the Sentinel Shrine and stand on it.

At the top, you’ll be able to jump outside (shown above) and reach the second secret area for this chapter, as well as a Ruby.
Demonic Essence Upgrade (Armor)
From the above Ruby, jump down and head right towards the first of the enemy encounters.
Kill the Leader Mancubus during this encounter to get your hands on the Demonic Essence Armor Upgrade for this chapter!
Make sure to enter the building behind the Mancubus and destroy the Hell Cannon here before continuing.
Collectible #2
Our second collectible item – a Weapon Skin – can also be grabbed in this area. From the building containing the Hell Cannon, go up the stairs to the northeast of you (if you are facing away from the building’s entrance) and straight ahead.
The short route you need to follow to the Weapon Skin is drawn on the below map.

Secret #3 and Demonic Essence Upgrade (Ammo)
If you open your map next, you should see another small enemy encounter right beside the area you’re currently in (shown below). Head here next.

You will unlock the third secret location for this chapter as soon as you approach the encounter. To actually begin slaying demons here, however, you’ll need to Shield Bash into the large tree here that has a green sigil on it and a Hell Portal above it.
If you then make sure to kill the Revenant during this encounter, you’ll also unlock the Demonic Essence Ammo Upgrade for this chapter.
Secret #4 and Secret Key
Up next, return to where we acquired the Weapon Skin and jump off the ledge that it was on, then head left to collect lots of Gold which is sat amongst some nasty tentacle enemies. Shield Bash through the exit here to find yourself at the beginning of the level again.
This time, we want to head to your right, where we have two more enemy encounters to choose from. We’ve marked the route on the below map in case you’re a little lost.

If you head straight ahead, you’ll come to a bridge with a Secret Key in a cage at the end of it. Round the back of the cage, you should see a green Flesh Node (shown below), that you can use to reach a platform.

Inside, go straight ahead to grab some Gold, and you’ll see some Hot Metal behind a metal gate. Go back on yourself and grab the armor plates in here, and you’ll soon reach an area where you can successfully Shield Throw at it.

You can now go through the gate that the Hot Metal was previously on, and rather than jumping down, look to your right. Jump over to the climbable wall here (shown below), and on the upper level, you’ll be able to collect a Gold Chest and unlock our fourth secret location.

This path will also ultimately lead to the Secret Key, so make sure you grab it!
Secret #5
If you go back across the bridge in this area now, take a right before going through the large archway. There’s a locked gate here that we can use our Secret Key on that has a blocked off Ruby outside of it, as well as a nearby floating Hell Portal we ought to visit!
Head to the locked gate first – marked on the below map – and go inside. You’ll unlock the fifth secret area for this chapter upon entering!

Inside the room, Shield Bash the tree with the Hell Portal above it. This starts an enemy encounter, and once dealt with, the statue holding the Ruby that is just outside of this room will now be accessible.
Secret #6 and Collectible #3
From the Ruby (and if you’re facing towards it/the previously locked room), look to your right. There’s a floating island with a Hell Portal on it, and just off the ledge here, there’s a gravity jet (shown below) that we can use to access it.

Upon landing on the small island, you’ll unlock the sixth secret location for the chapter, as well as our third collectible: a Cyberdemon Toy.
Go through the Hell Portal here to find yourself back by the statue that was holding the Ruby.
Secret #7
Next, from where the Hell Portal spawned you, go underneath the bridge in this area (the bridge that we previously collected the Secret Key from, shown below). Straight ahead, you’ll come to an area with a Mancubus, Witch, and some other enemies.

There’ll also be a Flesh Node here (pictured below), however, that we can use to reach our seventh secret area and a Life Sigil.

Demonic Essence Upgrade (Health)
Up next, follow your quest objective to the next and nearest enemy encounter. Defeat the Leader Cyberdemon here to receive the Demonic Essence Health Upgrade for this chapter.
Before leaving this area, make sure to destroy the Hell Cannon inside the building here: this will cause some previously blocked off areas around the map to now be accessible, so let’s go grab our last few secret locations.
Secret #8
If you exit the area the same way that you entered, you’ll likely spy another path near the exit that has a locked gate in need of the Secret Key (shown below), which we fortunately already have.

Go through the gate and follow the path to retrieve plenty of Gold, a Ruby, and our eighth secret location. You’ll wind up in an area with the Flesh Node and Life Sigil we grabbed earlier.
For now, return to the door at the very beginning of the level. If you look at your map, you will see a Codex entry on the left-hand side of the area, which we want to make our way over to.
Secret #9 and Collectible #4
From the level start, go to the Codex marked on your map (route is shown below), which is through a locked gate that we can use the Secret Key on.

Go through the locked gate using the Secret Key to unlock our ninth secret location, and just up ahead, there’ll be Gold Bars and a Codex entry to grab. There’s also some enemies, so be careful!
Secret #10
Last, but not least, make your way to the second Sentinel Shrine on the map. It’s the one we won’t have visited yet, and it’s right by the final enemy encounter. If you jump down behind the Shrine and take a right through this fleshy moat, you’ll come to a small area – our tenth secret location – which has a Life Sigil (shown on the below map).

That’s the last secret for this chapter, but we’re not done just yet. Complete the nearby enemy encounter, and following the fight, extract the battery from the back of the area. The following cutscene will then show us the broken-down Atlan in the middle of the map: we need to take the battery and place it in the Atlan to wrap things up.

Before you do that, though, make sure to grab the Wraithstone here (shown above), which is only accessible after extracting the battery.
You can now return to the level start – though, you’ll have to deal with a lot of enemies along the way – and climb up the Atlan. A previously locked door here will now be open, allowing you to place the battery and finish the chapter.
