Heartopia captures the hearts of Animal Crossing and The Sims fans to become the No.1 free download across 50 countries

Heartopia, the new cosy life sim from XD Games, has officially arrived on mobile, right on schedule. If you’ve been keeping up with Heartopia news, you’re likely already aware that the game has pushed back its Steam release to an indeterminate point in 2026.

Doesn’t look like it mattered much, however, as this has already been a big launch on iOS and Android — it probably helps that PC players aren’t being entirely left out of the fun, since the game is already available there via XD’s own cross-device platform TapTap.

XD Games announced today that Heartopia has reached the top spot on the App Store’s downloads page for free games, and it managed to do so in more than 50 countries and regions worldwide.

The developer is celebratig by offering players a lot of free stuff. If you’re feeling lucky, you’ll find new outfits and furniture in three gacha banners (Gilded Acorn Exhibitions): Polar Hymn, The Frostguard, and Coolplayism.

XD Games says you can expect regular updates to add more content, through Fashionwaves and Festivals. In fact, the first season – Winter Frost – is already penciled in for sometime in late January, and it’s going to add appropriately wintery activities like ice skating and snowman-building.

In February, a My Little Pony collaboration event will kick off, bringing new inspired outfits, and vehicles to the game.

Heartopia is a clever mix of Animal Crossing, and The Sims. It’s a free-to-play life sim where you can create your own character, dress them up, build a home for them (and decorate it), and go about town visiting and playing with other players’ characters.

The game’s main feature is the ability to take on a hobby, and seven of those are available at launch. You can dig deep into each hobby, either alone or with others, and there’s a progression track dedicated to each one.

Whether you’re among the millions who downloaded the game already, or you intend to so soon, we’ve got a set of helpful guides to get you started. You should check out how to unlock and upgrade hobbies in Heartopia first, before you get deep into finding all cooking recipes. And, of course, this wouldn’t be a big game launch without a bunch of Heartopia codes for some free stuff.
