A useful Honkai Star Rail Fugue build looks a bit unusual given her role in the game. The 5-star Tingyun redo is a Nihility character, though she functions more like a break support unit, which makes sense given what happened to Tingyun but still makes figuring out her kit and stats more TKTK

Honkai Star Rail Fugue build
Honkai Star Rail Fugue Light Cones
Fugue’s signature Light Cone, Long Road Leads Home, helps make reaching her 220 percent break damage point much easier. It gives the wearer 60 percent extra break damage and a 100 percent base chance to inflict the “charred” state when the wearer breaks an enemy. Charred increases how much break damage an enemy takes by 18 percent and stacks twice. It’s not essential, but it’s a nice boost.
The only other Nihility Light Cones that do anything for break damage are Fermata and Solitary Healing, the latter of which you can get from Herta’s store. Fermata raises the wearer’s break effect by 16 percent, though the second part increases damage to enemies suffering from shock or wind shear, which isn’t useful for Fugue.
Solitary Healing gives the wearer a 20 percent break effect boost, and it increases their damage-over-time by 24 percent for two turns. Fugue doesn’t excel as a DOT character, but even though that isn’t the most useful bonus for her, the 20 percent break effect buff is helpful if you’re struggling to reach 220 percent.
The best alternative choice is Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat. This one gives the wearer a high chance to inflict the ensared status on a foe, and ensnared foes have their defense reduced by 12 percent for one turn. Fugue has defense reduction in her kit as well, so that’s a welcome little extra.
There’s also Silver Wolf’s Before the Tutorial Mission Starts that you can also get from Herta’s store now. Fugue doesn’t need its effect hit rate if you give her a body Relic with EHR, but she does benefit from the extra energy boost it provides when the wearer attacks enemies with reduced defense.
Honkai Star Rail Fugue Relics
Fugue needs break effect more than anything, and since the goal for her third major passive trace is driving her break effect past the 200 percent mark, Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge is the set that’ll give you the best results – with a caveat.
- Two-piece effect: Increases break effect by 16 percent
- Four-piece effect: When the wearer’s break effect is 150 percent or higher, they ignore 15 percent of the enemy’s defense when inflicting weakness break. If it’s 250 percent or higher, their super break damage ignores an additional 15 percent of the enemy’s defense
The caveat is that it’s harder to hit 250 percent break effect with Fugue, since, unlike Firefly, she has nothing in her kit to raise her own break effect. You’d have to rely on Ruan Mei or the Harmony Trailblazer to reach. Fugue also won’t be breaking enemies herself as often as someone like Firefly, as her attacks’ toughness reduction is quite low except for her ultimate.
An alternative choice that’s easier to put together is a mixed set of Iron Cavalry, Watchmaker’s Dream, and Thief of Shooting Meteor, each of which gives a 16 percent break effect buff.
Honkai Star Rail Fugue Ornaments
Fugue’s best ornaments depend on who she’s teamed with. If Firefly is in the party, Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern is the right choice, as it increases the wearer’s speed by six percent and buffs their break effect by 40 percent for one turn if they attack an enemy with fire weakness. Firefly implants fire weakness, so that won’t be a problem.
For a non-Firefly team, Fugue should use the Talia, Kingdom of Banditry set. That one increases break effect by 16 percent, and when the wearer’s speed is 145 or higher, they get an extra 20 percent break effect buff. The speed requirement is harsh, but if Ruan Mei is around, she’ll help boost Fugue’s speed in battle, which offsets the stat grind a little.
Honkai Star Rail Fugue stats
Break effect is Fugue’s most important stat, but she also needs speed and a bit of extra effect hit rate to make sure she’s regularly reducing enemy defense when the ally with Foxian Prayer attacks. If reaching the 220 percent break effect point her third major passive requires is too tough, you’re not missing a whole lot if you just… don’t. The passive raises the party’s break effect by 12 percent for two turns when an enemy becomes weakness broken, and the effect can stack twice.
So, TL:DR:
- Body: Effect hit rate or, if you’re using an EHR Light Cone, attack percent
- Feet: Speed
- Orb: HP, defense, or attack percent
- Rope: Break effect
Honkai Star Rail Fugue teams
Fugue has utility as a debuffer, thanks to her defense reduction ability, but she’s primarily a break support unit. Her exotoughness ability makes it possible to break enemies twice in quick succession, which is excellent for Rappa – who powers up the more times enemies are weakness broken – and a helpful support for other break characters. Fugue can also let allies inflict super break damage, albeit to a lesser extent than Harmony Trailblazer.
Fugue’s best DPS characters are:
Some people use her with Acheron, since Fugue lets other characters apply debuffs easily. However, if you’re choosing between Fugue or Jiaoqiu just for Acheron, Jiaoqiu is definitely the better choice.
Any break-focused Fugue party would benefit from another break support character, such as Ruan Mei or, if they’re available, the Harmony Trailblazer. Gallagher and Lingsha – break-focused healers – are excellent sustain options, though Aventurine is, as ever, a strong choice as well.
What tier is Fugue in Honkai Star Rail?
Fugue is an easy pick for the S-rank category of our HSR tier list, at least if you’re using a break party. She lets an ally reduce enemy toughness, buffs break effect, makes it possible to break enemies multiple times, and grants access to super break. Harmony Trailblazer does all these things as well – minus exotoughness – but with the Remembrance Trailblazer existing now, there’s often demand for them in a wider variety of parties, from Castorice and Mydei to The Herta or anyone who needs more crit damage. That makes Fugue even more valuable.
If you don’t have a break damage DPS, though, Fugue is really not worth aiming for at all.
