How to beat Everdark Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign
The second instalment of enhanced, Everdark bosses for Elden Ring Nightreign has been rolled out, with Everdark Augur being the first of these to become available to fight against. If you – like the majority of Nightreign fans – found the original version of Augur to be a bit of a nuisance, I hate to break it to you that Everdark Augur is even worse.
Acting as a real test of patience and stamina, Everdark Augur has been amped up significantly, dishing out even more damage and showcasing some new attacks. That said, there is a bit of a gimmick to this fight, so as long as you’re able to keep your HP intact, you’ll take this jellyfish down sooner or later.
To help you with that, here’s how to beat Everdark Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How to beat Everdark Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign
If you’re embarking on an Expedition to defeat Everdark Sovereign Augur in Nightreign, there are a few things to bear in mind as you loot Limveld dry. We’ve noted these below, giving you an idea of which Nightfarers to use and items to look out for ahead of the final night.
- The fight begins with Augur’s second phase, with the third phase of the fight having its own secondary health bar.
- As a result of the fight having two health bars, and Augur being a lengthy fight from the get-go, we highly recommend bringing Warming Stones or a Sacred Seal with a healing Incantation on it, just to be safe.
- Augur remains weak to Lightning above all else, so you can look out for Lightning weapons and Incantations, or Lightning Grease and Pots. Admittedly, however, your build for this fight doesn’t actually matter too much.
- Augur is resistant to Fire, and immune to ailments such as Poison, Sleep, Bleed, Madness, and Frostbite, so don’t bother using these.
- Everdark Augur deals Physical and Magic Damage, while also inflicting the Sleep ailment on players. Anything to boost your resistance to these – or status ailments – won’t go amiss.
- While ranged attackers are vital for the original Augur fight, they’re not as important for Everdark Augur, so pick who you want. Ideally, you want high HP Nightfarers such as Wylder or Raider, but I found Duchess to be good during this fight too.
- Use the Night of the Lord Relic to boost the Attack Power of the Storm Ruler Skill used during this fight. To make use of this, you will need to be comfortable switching back and forth between weapons during the final fight. Alternatively, the Grand Luminous Scene Relic from the Collector Signboard – which boosts your Attack Power for every Evergaol defeated – is useful.
For the first portion of your fight against Everdark Augur (his first health bar), take a look at our guide on how to beat the original Augur; this details his moveset, core attacks to look out for, and plenty of tips for taking him down. During this phase, however, you mainly need to be looking out for exploding jellyfish that Augur summons, the waves of water he sends towards you, and the explosive teardrops he sometimes produces.
Once you deplete Augur’s first health bar, you’ll receive a Legendary Dormant Power drop and have a brief moment of respite. The Dormant Power drop will provide you with a weapon that has the Storm Ruler Weapon Skill, and this is what you’ll want to be using for the remainder of the fight. When you do use it, make sure to charge the Weapon Skill first and foremost to deal additional damage!
You can, of course, attempt the rest of your fight against Augur without using the weapon given to you and the Storm Ruler Skill, but it’s highly likely you won’t get very far that way…
Those who’ve played Dark Souls 3 will know what the Storm Ruler is (a greatsword exclusive to DS3), and will have used it in the fight against Yhorm the Giant. Similarly, those who have defeated Rykard using the Serpent-Hunter in Elden Ring will likely have an idea where this is going. Essentially, if you use this weapon and charge the Storm Ruler Weapon Skill, you’ll unleash an overhead swing with exceptional range (which functions exactly as DS3’s Storm King skill does), allowing you to reach the highly-mobile Augur. The short of it is that the third phase of Augur’s fight is one big gimmick, but he still provides quite a challenge.
On top of that, charging the Storm Ruler Weapon Skill restores FP, meaning that you’re granted infinite access to FP during this phase. With this in mind, the likes of Duchess or Revenant can fire off Spells without worrying about their FP too much, but all players can consider picking up a Sacred Seal with a healing Incantation on it in Limveld. By doing this, you can technically heal yourself throughout the fight by charging the weapon skill to restore your FP over and over again.
With that out of the way, here are what attacks you should prepare yourself for during Everdark Augur’s third phase.
Everdark Augur attacks and counters in Nightreign
During Everdark Augur’s third phase in Nightreign, things don’t get too out of hand, as opposed to Everdark Gaping Jaws or Everdark Sentient Pest. While there are some new attacks to look out for, Augur’s moveset remains quite basic – and slow – so actually avoiding his attacks isn’t too tricky, especially if your duo or trio is spread out around the arena.
- Bubble Rain: A new attack from Augur that sees him shooting projectile bubbles at you. Once the bubbles land, they will soon explode. These are easily dodged or run away from.
- Magic Projectiles: Augur can also summon five orbs around him, which then unleash fast magic projectiles. Once you see the orbs have been summoned, prepare to dodge to the side to avoid the projectiles if he is targeting you. This move gets much more tricky to avoid as he later uses it in combination with his Laser Beam attack, but these orbs can be destroyed using Storm Ruler.
- Large Waves: Previously, Augur would quickly hurl waves of water at you. Now, he sends slow-moving, much larger waves around the arena that will build Sleep on you as long as you’re inside them. The trick with these is to quickly figure out which direction the the large wave is moving in, and run in the opposite direction to escape it as quickly as possible.
- Laser Beam: At some points during the fight, Augur will fire a dark laser beam from his head, slinging the beam across the arena, causing explosions in its path. Be careful to try and avoid its path by running sideways. Augur can use this attack in combination with his magic projectiles if they’re active.
- Divebomb: The Divebomb attack isn’t new for Augur. This sees him charge at you quickly while spinning his body, throwing you to the ground if you’re hit. The best way to counter this is by dodging through the charge once you see him coming.
- Naptime: Again, this isn’t a new attack for Augur. He may choose to fall to the ground and fall asleep during the fight, which then begins inflicting Sleep across the arena. To counter this attack, you want to relentlessly spam attack Augur and stun him out of it or your entire team needs to use the charged Storm Ruler Skill on him simultaneously to knock him out of it. Alternatively, if you’re far away when he does this, you can run away to avoid Sleep fully building up on you, but this is risky.
As briefly mentioned above, something important to note during this fight is that you can – and should – destroy the magic orbs that appear around Augur’s head when possible. You can actually lock onto these and then unleash the charged Storm Ruler Skill on them to destroy them. This then makes actually attacking Augur much easier, as you’ve less explosive, magic projectiles to be worrying about trying to dodge.
On top of that, perhaps the most important thing to remember about this fight is to charge the Storm Ruler Skill if you’re running low on FP, as this will restore it for you, thus allowing you to keep using the Skill to ultimately take Everdark Augur down.
As per usual, if you want to see someone defeat Augur without getting hit, ONGBAL’s done it again on YouTube.
