The Safehouse in the Hills update in GTA Online has also been called the “Mansion Update,” and it’s easy to see why. The update has introduced full-fledged mansions into Los Santos, allowing you to live life like Michael and Franklin from the story mode of GTA V. You can even access a new Michael mission in the Safehouse in the Hills update, if you’ve been missing the aging fella.
Between completing missions in Safehouse in the Hills, though, you might be curious about acquiring and customizing your mansion in GTA Online. Below, you can see a full rundown of how the mansions work in Los Santos.
How to buy a Mansion in GTA Online
To purchase one of the new mansions in GTA Online, you’ll have to visit a specific website on your phone, and you’ll need quite a large sum of money. Mansions can be purchased by visiting the Prix Luxury Real Estate website, and there are three mansions to choose from. You can see what they are and how much they cost below:
- The Tongva Estate – $11,500,000
- The Vinewood Residence – $12,200,000
- Richman Villa – $12,800,000
You can get a discount on these mansions if you complete the new Listing missions in GTA Online before purchasing one of them. However, you’ll still need nearly $10 million for any of the three mansions, even with the discount applied. Buying a mansion is a requirement to start the KnoWay Out missions and reach the new Michael De Santa mission in GTA Online, though, so it’s up to you when to purchase your new property.
In any case, when you want to purchase one of the mansions, or all of them, just head to Prix Luxury Real Estate, pick the one you want to buy, and then click the “Customize” option in the mansion’s description box. From the first page, labeled “Interior”, you can select the mansion’s tint, pattern, and decor. Be wary, though, as some of the options from these customizations will run you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
If you then select “Additional Rooms” from the left-hand side of the screen, you can select some add-ons for your mansion. These include an Armory, Arcade, Podium, and Vehicle Workshop.
Moving on, you can add some Security options to your house, which aren’t overly necessary, and finally, you’re able to customize the mansion’s AI Assistant. This includes changing the AI’s voice.
Once you’re all done with the customization options, you’ll head to the Overview section, which tallies up the base price of the mansion plus the cost of all of your add-ons. You’ll see your final price on the screen, and if you have the funds, you can select “Confirm” to lock in the purchase of your mansion.
After the transaction goes through, you’ll see a waypoint appear for your mansion’s location on the map. Head to the waypoint and then interact with the blue sphere on the ground to enter the mansion. All mansions in GTA Online are in their own instances, so you can’t directly access the outside world from the mansion itself. However, there are no cutscenes once you’re inside the mansion’s instance.
Customizing your Mansion in GTA Online
Inside your mansion, you have a slew of additional customization options available to you. Once you’re in the mansion, you can bring up the interaction menu and select “Mansion Management.” Here, you have the ability to add a number of new items to your property by selecting the “Customization” option.
This includes adding decorations, trophies, plaques, gym equipment, and a dog/cat and pet area. Your mansion already includes a barber, a tattoo shop, a spa, and your AI tablet. The AI tablet allows you to exit via several different vehicles, host a party, and manage your various businesses. The tablet can be found on the ground-level wall and in other areas throughout the mansion.
Getting back to the main customization options, though, you have access to a ton of items that can be showcased in your mansion. Decorations will spruce up your house, but they’re extremely costly. If you find a decoration you like, you can see how it would look in its location before purchasing it.
As for the trophies and plaques, you’ll need to have earned them before you can showcase them in your mansion. If you have no trophies or plaques, these customization options will be greyed out for you.
Finally, the gym equipment option allows you to customize what workout items you can use at your mansion, while the dog and cat options let you pick a new canine or feline friend to have around the house. You can pick out the animal’s name, breed, and then customize a small area for them right outside the mansion.
Right now, those are all of the customization options available for your mansion in GTA Online. However, Rockstar Games could evolve this system with the new Mission Creator, so be on the lookout for updates to that new feature.
